Can you tell me more about those matches with the paper on them? Any special configuration there or is it just tp wrapped around the match? Have you thought to add trioxelene (sp) tablets? Something obvious a lot of people miss is that orange tube of matches you got there, that piece of metal on the bottom is a small fire steel. The matches that are on the tin can are strike anywhere matches rolled up in paper towels and dipped in wax. The matches that are to the left of the firesteel are also strike anywhere matches but I spread petroleum jelly on the paper towel before rolling it up and dipping it in wax. They both work great but you get a bigger stronger flame from the matches dipped in wax....give it a try. You can also experiment with tp. The sp tabs are with my mess kit, which will be part of another thread when I have some time to put it together.

When hunting I carry those little individual packs of tissue, as TP, nose wiper, and hand cleaner-off-er. Also a small jar of Carmex lip balm, for wind burned and dry lips...as well as general putting on various Boo Boo's.
Well a crumbled up piece of tissue rubbed with some Carmex, (has bees wax in it) serves very well as "cotton ball/PJ". Found this kinda by accident while duck hunting and managed to step into deeper water than my hip boots....needed a fire right now. Tissue was still sealed, and worked fine. Also makes in unnecessary to have to carry a separate container of cotton ball/PJ...(I do carry them as well).
The caps are an interesting idea....one more tool in the box.

One item you may want to add is a small fresnel lens, it's free fire lighting every time the sun is out. My local Walmarts SUCK ! They dont have alligator clips and couldnt find the fresnel lens pack. Our walmart doesnt have the eye glasses place. Looked all over the store with no results and the employees are clueless as always.

No need to use them when the sun is out, makes your fire preps last longer. You can order them on line if need be. Got to love the so called workers at walmart but you get what you pay for

When are you going to try the caps out? Just did some practice with the toy caps and alligator clips...the first time took me 3 times to light the cotton but you know the saying, practice makes perfect.

Thanks for the vid...guess I have never heard of that before. Seems like ta "snapper" of some sort in needed?......So you have to bring it and the caps along? Cool idea, but don't the caps run the danger of getting wet?....Have you tried it with a percussion cap for a muzzleloader?.....or primer for a center fire round? You can also use a nail or anything hard and pointy. I have never had a problem with the caps getting damp,i believe they have been treated at the factory for dampness.

Those Fresnel lens packs are also useful in case something happens to your glasses, if you wear them.....helped me out once. I keep one in my wallet.
