We took a couple of young boars out of the population today. Have around 60 lbs of pork soaking in salt water. We was being lazy and just suit cased them out. The buzzards and yotes will have a feast on the rest These will probably be ground up for sausage other then the back cut for some chops.... Sorry I did not get any pictures this round was unplanned and happened kind of fast...

There are feral hogs messing up one of my spring fed ponds in southern Missouri . Eleven taken in the last 6 months and that only made a dent in them . They are part razor back and part "domestic" pig.... and BIG .

Between shooting and trapping we have gotten 13 in last month or so... sad thing is we only been baiting the trap a few days off and on There are feral hogs messing up one of my spring fed ponds in southern Missouri . Eleven taken in the last 6 months and that only made a dent in them . They are part razor back and part "domestic" pig.... and BIG .

Have two young guys - brothers- that try to keep the population down . We tried some trapping (big steel leg holds and snares ( I hate snaring any animal ) and traps aren't working . Smoked and salted maybe 80 pounds of meat and even the younger pigs don't taste all that great . I think it is the acorns they eat ...dunno . One of the ponds is pretty ok . The other is a mess and is / was the source for fresh water to my tiny cabin . This land is hardcore brush and rolling hills . Hard to get a decent shot , but a 338 Lapua does a number on them . later

we have been shooting the boars and feeding them to the yots and buzzards, the sows we sell to some people, then we have been catching the piglets and grain feeding them for a month then butchering, they dress out to about 30# of very tender and very good tasting pork meat per piglet at a very small cost.
Once we kill the boar and sow the piglets don't run off and we are able to run them into a pen we make from pallets and a wire funnel, works pretty good.

we use the cattle panels to funnel the younger ones into a 8x4 box pen made of wood pallets. We pre-build it then bait the area. Like I said shoot the sows and boars. Leave the boars for the buzzards or the next batch of hogs. Once boars and sows are gone it is easy to run the little ones into the pallet box. Then just use a cable run thru a pipe to make a loop and catch them. Cut the little boars then We carry them home in a big dog cage.
You can look at the scat, if the adults have been eating off of a grain or soy bean field and have access to clean water you could probably eat the sows, if they have been drinking bad water and eating acorns you want to flush them out before you butcher.
Just like we do a snapping turtle, catch them and hold them for a week in a barrel of fresh water.
We have some hog here descendants from tame hogs let loose in 1950 when the DOD took over the land to make the bomb plant. But we go into GA, these around here will make a geiger counter sing. The deer too.
