Today I opened a cache where I had placed a handgun in one of those “weapon cloaks” using Corrosion Inhibiting Skin (CIS) Technology, I found at sports academy. This handgun had been in the cloak, inside a plastic bag with some rice and inside a plastic barrel with some rice underground. I field stripped the weapon, examined it and found no corrosion or moisture, wiped it down with a cotton tee shirt and fired a magazine of rounds through it without any failures. Tomorrow I will strip it and inspect it under strong light, clean it and return it to the cache. The cloak is supposed to be good for 24 months; I will check it again in six months. So far so good. I thought about putting one in a seal a meal vacuum bag but I would think it would need to be oiled pretty heavy and I was told the oil would derogate the bag, anyone tried it?

Have not at this time but have thought of doing a revolver with the foodsaver. Thanks for the oil to bag info I'll run a test on that first.

How long had it been stored like that before you checked it?
