Okay, I'll play. It is a taught line. Paul Taught line hitch yep good call. Have you used it before ? it does a good job keeping tents and tarps taught

I use it. Taught it to my boys last backpack trip. Functions like a Prusik knot.

I looked through my pdf copy of Ashelys book of knots and it might be a midshipmens hitch, image 1993 in the attachment The knot that OffTrail tied is more like the 1994 Adjustable Jam Hitch with the 2 wraps adjoining. Us landlubbers call it like pmoore, a Taught Line Hitch. Or at least that's what it looks like to me anyway.

I've always called that the tautline hitch. Great for cinching up anchor lines on tarps and tents, like you said.
