I was watching buying alaska last night and it showed a piece of plywood with screws sticking up through it on the front porch. This was to deter bears from entering the front door of a cabin. I think the concept could be used to deter marauders but placing the board just inside the doorway. If they've broken down the door I'd say their intent is clear and even short screws stuck in the bottom of a sneaker and attached to board may give you the advantage you need.

I saw something similar to that a few years ago, and I like your idea for inside the door. I would use longer screws to make sure they go all the way through. Make it hurt them, since they already broke in, and no quarters given! Jim

Depends on how the door actions. I don't know of anyone but Hollywood that can actually kick it off its hinges. It's not as easy as it looks. But I too like the idea and yes I'd want the screw up at least 1 1/2" self tapping sheet metal kind. Inside takes away liability. But I guess bears don't have lawyers.

Wire across stair wells is a wonderful deterrent also.

The self tapping screws or anything that will grab and slow the intruder's progress would be good.

What if you could recess it into the floor a bit, cover with something and make like a pungi stick trap. Im thinking with 2 1/2 - 3" wood screws. That would leave a mark!

Chuck Norris can kick a house off it's door hinges. Since bears aren't an issue where I live, I'd just go with a trap door on the porch over a snake pit. Or a Burglar Bomb <--- Not a real bomb.
