Howdy people, just picked these up tonight at my local Walmart. I do have water bottles but they do take up a lot of room, full or empty. I thought these roll up canteen would be a good addition to my bob. Now I have a means of carrying 2 liter of water if needed. If not i can roll them up and put them in my pack with little room used.

Chase bank gave out a blue colored version to all customers last summer and I got one. Haven't used it yet but looks to be good.

If by chance i had to take off in a hurry at least i can stop and boil some water then fill up the canteens. My next piece of equipment will be a portable water filter.

I posted this on another forum and someone brought up a good point. If the roll up canteen freezes will it crack or burst apart. Never thought about that, think I will do an experiment and see how it holds up to cold weather.

I have some similar containers I picked up at dollar stores. Since the price was cheap I purposely filled one to overflowing to put pressure on the seam and sat it in a pot for a week. It held up with no leakage so I'm satisfied. Of course I also have gallon ziplocs as backup for anything they're needed for including water containment.

They still take up the same amount of room full or empty

Yep but they come full and they're plentiful. Lots of people on the trail use them in place of Nalgene bottles because they're lighter and available if you lose one or it cracks.

I saw some other type of collapseable bottle in the camping/hiking section of a store and was thinking about whether it would be worth having and how it would hold up.

I think I'll give them a try now. Thanks cl!
