Unfortunately, this was my doing. It is literally nuclear grade grout good for 60 years... Some of that "alien spawn elastomeric adhesive" you spoke of.

In past posts on ammo threads, I've always whined about no ammo in my neck of the woods.... Well other than 22s ALL other calibers are now available in most Wal-Marts. 9,38,357,45 auto, all hunting rounds, plus 7.62x39, 308 and 223/5.56. At least over the last 2 weeks. What is weird is, two WMs I frequent have full shelves of all the calibers, BUT not even a spot with prices for 22..... Jimmy

Since we've derailed this thread already! Back in the 70’s, the biggies were Bechtel, Fluor, RM Parsons and CF Braun. I did a lot of consulting work for Braun on “N” rated ventilation systems for TVA projects, then both Fluor and Parsons for heating systems on the Alaska Pipeline for Arco. The pipeline stuff was a lot more fun and didn’t require shaker table test results for each and every piece in the “N” rated areas. Long, long ago and far, far away.

Marc When I was in Victoria I would swing by Academy every morning at 7:50 on my way to breakfast, peer through the glass to see if the counter was lined with .22 (they keep it on the counter at the register), if they had it I hung around, if the counter didn't have .22 I'd leave unless they had large boxes of 9s or something I wanted. (I didn't need any but opportunity only knocks.. ) I ended up with 5 buckets, 1400 rounds each of .22lr for $70 each. I had to buy a box to bring back all the ammo I bought while there.. oh yeah and a Big Boy I drove to Houston for..

If people would stop paying $0.10 to $0.15 per round, it would get better quickly! Around here, it started showing up on the shelves when the scalpers weren't able to move it at the inflated prices. As I've said, I have to work to get it - but it's out there! Again, I'm NOT saying that it's everywhere - but I will say that my small town is not buying the 1.2 million per day that is being sold..........maybe some towns have had zero for the last year - dunno. We may well have crossed some paths somewhere then. I've worked for three of those entities and consulted for two of them after. I've also consulted for Alyeska. As for N stamp work, ASME N, N-3, NPT, NA, etc, I've worked a lot of them as well as consultation work on developing N stamp programs as a whole. As for asking for it, yep I did, and from your description, it was probably the same stuff. However, it was the only solution I could find at the time for assuring 30 minute retardation of fire hazard between upper and lower levels of this house. Standard materials transfer heat to fast, and will risk materials under them. In retrospec, I have a solution, but not in time to prevent the current headache.

Strangely enough I went by WMT the day after Christmas, figuring the mob would run me off and there were perhaps 50 people in the entire store. I walked down to see if they had any .22 (fyi I don't have anything in 22 but figured since everyone and their brother are looking for it.... I would look too). The clerk was literally handing over the "last of 40 boxes we put out this morning" to someone. He also said they put it out at 0700.

We are pretty well covered for 22 here. Problem is, there are a lot of folks out there who are not, and cannot afford the scalping price. I've been letting go of some of my own to help some folks but I cannot keep that up indefinitely. At this point in time I am 10k below what I normally keep.
A lot of people bring children into the world of firearms and hunting with 22. Without that cheap source of ammo, many will simply not get that opportunity. Ask yourself where that will do to the future of the shooting sports?
Anyone who has enough of it to spare should help the cause in my opinion, but that is just me.

With some of the scalping/gauging 22LR prices out there one's likely better off financially buying 5.56 in bulk.

With some of the scalping/gauging 22LR prices out there one's likely better off financially buying 5.56 in bulk. It's not just the scalpers either. Several retailers are doing the same thing. Those retailers partaking of it are ones I'll never do business with again. Here are a few for instances; surplusammocheaperthandirt?ammomanThose are all companies I've done done business with in the past. My shadow will never darken their door again after their gouging.

I used to be a Cheaper than Dirt customer. When they bumped their Pmag30's from $14.00 to over $100.00 each in one day, I decided that our relationship was over. At the suggestions of folks here, I put an order in with Brownells and got them 2 months later at at the original $10 or $11 each plus shipping. All through this mess, Brownells, Midway and Ableammo have treated me right - I won't forget that.
I am a free market kind of guy, so I fully support anyone's right to raise their prices anytime, to any level. But, I also have the right to choose where I spend my hard earned pennies.
Cwi, I get a kick out of you saying that you are down by 10K rounds from what you like to maintain - I'm still working to get up to that level! I don't mean that negatively at all - I would love to be in that position!
Between my nieces, nephews, kids and grandkids, it's kinda hard to build a supply. You're right, it's critical to teach them early and teach them correctly. One good thing about this ammo shortage - it has forced me to force them to practice more trigger discipline! When the 10/22's come out, the BX-25's stay on the shelf!

Bringing this one back up to amplify cwi's point - prices are continuing to climb.
I stopped at Walmart at my way in looking for .22lr. They had none, but the guy told me that they sold thirty-two boxes of 333 rounds on Saturday morning between 7:00am and 8:00am. The price was $17.80 - hanging around $.05 each and climbing slowly.
In early 2013, I always bought the value packs of (100) Federal .223/55gr (BP223BL) they were selling for $28. at Walmart. Then they went to $35. and I still bought as much as I could find. Now they are $40. making them less attractive because $.40 per round is almost getting into range of 5.56 green tip in bulk quantities.
My point is that I was a little surprised to this "nothing special" box of ammo has gone up about 40% in just over year at my local Walmart.
