The last few days I have been working with bamboo. We are removing the leaves to send to a zoo in Ontario for the pandas there. The place they usually get it from is frozen so they are looking a little further south. Anyway, it's a very time consuming project and they want 8 lbs of leaves in each box and it takes a long time. As a result I have ALOT of bamboo poles in sizes ranging from 1/4 to 1 in. around. I can't see them all just going to waste. (hubby wants to burn it all)---I want to make project of it (and it can be part of our life skills class) Do I need to let them dry a little or will they be easier to work with green? I was planning on using the bigger poles for the frame and them placing the smaller ones on top and then filling in the holes. Is this a good idea or is there a better way to do this?

Girl you could make money with that. Those make great fishing poles, roll up mats for sushi, coasters, beach mats, the list goes on and on. Like cwi said, bundle them up and sell what you won't use.

People also make flutes, furniture and curtains from bamboo. Bamboo is expensive to buy to make those things.

My greatest WW project was a 2 year in the making, split bamboo fly rod....
Bamboo has many, many uses.

I have been sorting through the piles of bamboo poles today. We are basically ending up with a trailer load full at the end of 2 days of work. We have 4 different types now. One is not very sturdy (not enough for fishing) I am going to try to use these as plant trellis/tomato cages. One type is the bigger poles like you can make furniture out of. They hubby is going to make a bar with it. I have some with some leaves still attached and those will be used for our teepee/wigwam. We will be doing this until probably May so we will have plenty of material to work with.
