Graf's thread on chapstick got me thinking. Are tehre any oil based (read: less evaporative) zippo fuels available? Can I use something like Tiki torch oil or mineral oil?

I have my Dad's Korean war Zippo. He used to show it to me and tell me how Zippos could use almost anything for fuel, including gasoline siphoned out of a Jeep. Of course if Daddy told me pigs could sprout wings and fly I'd have believed him, so you decide for yourself.

What I have used after reading someplace is "VM&P Naphtha- pure" available at hardware stores its used to thin oil base paint, currently i have a qt with flints taped to it as a prep. I would also think denatured alcohol, 90% rubbing alcohol would both work. I know of folks that have used gasoline as well.

very cheap 100% proof alcohol also works, but that is better kept for tinctures and such like, but it will work in a pinch

Back in the day where I worked we used something called heptane for many different things, I would put it in my Zippo.
