Sunday we went on a wild foods walk hosted by Mountain Mark and led by these folks, www.wildgourmetfood.com/about_us.htmlIt was a great day, especially since the rain held off. It is beyond helpful to be able to go out with some people who really know what they are doing and actually see the plants, not just a picture in a book. The especially interesting thing was that whether it was in the woods or field you really didn't have to look too hard to find a useful plant, either for food or medicine. There were some surprises. Who knew we had truffles here? Well, we do. So I'll be checking around the base of some old growth hemlocks just in case we've got some growing on our woods. It was great to meet Mark and his family too. Mark, if you make the truffle cheese we'll need a sample. hehehehe ;D j/k

I'm leery of using pictures to gather mushrooms, etc. Too many times the color in printed matter just doesn't print true, even using computers. You should hear my wife when the printers mess up her art prints, which is most of the time. Usually taking at least 4-5 trips to check and approve them before printing. A live instructor there with you is the only way.

We found a few mushrooms even though we weren't really looking for them. I want to do it again. Maybe take as many types of classes as possible. I learn best that way. There was so much info. I wrote down the names of any plants I was not already familiar with. I plan to look them up online and in my books and then try to find them in the woods around my house.
With the 2 teaching the class and Mark we had 3 people finding stuff all around us.
