Can u take parts off a Gen 4 (ie the recoil spring or slide) and swap them with a Gen 3?

In my armorer class I learned that the rule of thumb is that's a no-go. The slide assembly maybe, but smaller parts that have gone through a lot of changes and improvements over the years are another story. Bottom line is keep a Gen 4 Glock only with Gen 4 parts. Gen 3 parts can work with Gen 2s, I think.
I'll check my notes when I get back home to confirm what I stated. All the above is off the top of my head and I don't want to throw the wrong info out there.

Thanks C. Im mainly interested to see if the recoil spring and barrel will swap. The difference in springs is obvious but, i would think they would.

There are some exceptions though. Regarding the Gen 4, that is a true statement. I won't own a Gen 4 as in my view, Glock screwed it up. Between Gen 2 and 3 depending on the model, they got it right. Then went the way of ruger when ruger changed the designs of some of their weapons.

Basically same reason why I won't go the gen 4 route with Glock. I'll take interchangeability over the latest/greatest.

Sooo, exactly what problem did the Gen 3's have that just HAD to be solved with the 4? Referring to Model 22 that is.

I have a gen 1 model 22, recently changed out the recoil spring and guide, added night sights. I have a gen 4 model 27, has a double recoil spring, and 3 different grip attachments, also the magazine relaese can be transferred to the other side. The model 27 is my EDC, very happy with that. Like my Glocks. Also found that the model 22 magazine will fit the model 27.

Well, a little while back I traded out my Baretta 92 for a NIB Glock 22 (with six mags) so I could have two of them. Just so happens its a Gen4. I have carried my Gen 3 for 15 or so years without any notable problems and its my go to weap. Oh well, didnt know they were that different. I still like them both and now Ill just have to get another. Before everyone lambasts me, I know the Baretta costs more than a Glock but, I got the 9mm cheap and didnt like it much so I traded. I came out OK on it I think with 6 mags.

I wasn't much of a Beretta fan myself, although that's mainly due to the grip not fitting into my hand as well as a 1911 does, or a Glock.
