First an update on the CRKT Minimalist neck knife I got to replace my Kabar Remora:
I miss my Remora. The CRKT has a great feel to it and the ergonomicsare great but I find the blade is,in many applications just too short. it is difficult for things like cutting rope. By the time you begin your cut your to the end of the blade. Also, the blade does not hold an edge as well as the Kabar. I will probably passit on to one of the boys and get a new remora.
ok, now FLASHLIGHTS
MY favorite and most used light is the Inova XS which runs on a single AAA battery. Stated runtimes are 1hr 20min on high (53 LM) AND 26HRS ON LOW(6 LM). Ihave tried these myself with Duracell AAAand got 2hrs on high and close to 35 hrs on low. It is quite small & light weight and I wear it on the same lanyard with my neckknife 24/7 . I used it to get back and forth from my treestand during deer season and it has become my favorite EDC light. I highly reccomend it!
Another recent acquisition is the COAST PX25 compact 208 lumen light. It runs on 3AAA batteries instead of the exspensive CR123's and really shines. Its sleek compact design is easy to grip and use, lightweight, and good run time,. I got almost 2 hoursout of it. It IS a single mode light with a momentary / push & click for full on switch and is covered by their lifetime warranty... and the company is owned and backed by LEATHERMAN INC. AND I know from experience they stand behind their products. It holds a tight beam out past 100 yrds with agradual flood effect. Both The INOVA and the PX25 are made from aircraft aluminum and I have personally tried them over the last 3 months actually dropping them from treestands, rain storms, falling in the creek, running it over with the truck(INOVA) once...forgot to get it out from underneath while changing oil ...OPPS...
In the words of Jedi knight Luke Skywalker.. " Both are hard working and will serve you well" Prices run between 18-25 dollars on each.
