Not sure what happened, but Jims beagle, Houndog Pup, suddenly and with no warning or explanation, went paralyzed in his front legs a couple days ago. He is starting to stiffen up in his rear legs due to lack of use, but I started ROM and massage therapy and it seems to be helping. Yesterday I gave him a baby asprin per vet orders and again this morning. This afternoon he will be going to the vet for a corticosteroid shot in his neck & shoulders to try an/d reduce the swelling and inflammation. I personally think he was injured going through the doghouse doorway when Oreo (a fat tub of lard mix breed they have) smashed and ran over him. They have been together for 11 years, and neither of them has ever been hurt before. Anyways...he is in my basement, and will be staying there until we can get something figured out. If the shot today does no help...he will be buried in the orchard with Bullsh!t. I hope none of you ever experience this with a pet...it is hard seeing him like this and not be able to do anything more than hand feed him canned and dry foods, clean him or hold him upright while he goes to the bathroom. This is so sad...but at least he isn't in any pain!

That doesn't sound too good....and is a terrible thing to deal with.
One rescue lab, we had nurtured, and he blew up in weight. While out at " The Place" something scared him so bad while he was off the pouch, that he fell backwards rushing back up and tore up some ligaments....Didn't get up for 2 days, than slowly started to move around....but was never "right". Went a couple of more years, till one night he laid down, and never got back up. Bad year for us......We lost the 4 year old hunting buddy lab last fall, and the old girl lab 13 a month ago.
All the best, but remember he is trusting you to do the right thing....We tend to put them thru a lot ...for us, not them. I am typing this with tears in my eyes......

I am very sorry for your losses. That's a harsh hand to be dealt for sure!!
It's been a long couple of days...and tonight doesn't look to be much better. I guess I will find out when I get back home if he is any better. The vet was gonna put him down...so we dicided not to take him in. Surgery is out of the question, so it's a wait & see game for a few days. As long as he is eating & drinking good, going to the bathroom voluntarily, trying to move & not in pain...I am willing to do what I must to take care of him & see if time & prayers help.

I've seen this happen before, I have no idea why or what causes it. The dogs were all beagles for some reason, never recovered. Dink that is for sure a good looking dog, no other dog compares to a beagle. They not only make great hunters but top the list for the perfect pets. I hope it all works out for you and the dog recovers.

Dink I know it isn't what you might want to hear, but as long as it has been my opinion would be to put him down
