So these glowing semi ciggarettes thingys are pretty popular these days. Kinda like smoking without smoking I guess. Personally, I think they are just a way for tobacco companies to lure people back to smoking organic. Anyway, does anybody think stocking up on elements if these crazy things for shtf? Could it make for a decent barter item? Regular cigs only store for so long, these may have a better shelf life. Just thinkin outloud here. What say the panel?

Tobacco seeds is the best prep. Some tins of tobacco, some rolling papers and some people will sell you their soul.

They are not cigarettes/smokes, nor are they related to the cigarette/tobacco companies. If anything, they are the polar opposite.
Cigarettes are burnt to start a chemical chain reaction that creates ~7000 chemical compounds, most of which are either toxic or a carcinogen. They also release large volumes of second hand 'smoke', which contains much the same things.
Electronic cigarettes are actually a misnomer. These devices are more aligned with atomizers and nebulizers.
The liquids utilized can contain nicotine, caffeine, and other chemicals depending on the mix. Nicotine is the most common. The only by product of any measurable quantity is water vapor. The FDA has been trying to sink it's paws into it for 8 years now. They continuously go at it from several different angles, but every study they have commissioned has come back negative for any measurable harmful affects. They persist, and likely will end up simply declaring it bad without evidence like NYC did. The most common argument being the nicotine. That argument dies logically when it is remembered that nicotine is present in all nightshade plants in various levels. Nightshade plants include tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, pimentos, etc. Like alcohol, when taken in moderation, it actually has several benefits.
So why the fuss? Two words...tax dollars. The current estimates for revenue loss from smokers switching to 'vaping' as it's called, was 5% of all tobacco related taxes in the U.S. If the Feds actually cared whether you lived or died, they would simply ban tobacco all together, rather than approving 599 additives for tobacco.
The downside side to not being regulated, is not in the use of them, but in the adulteration of the liquids. Currently there are no specific federal regulations that cover it. The wicks are also a potential source of adulteration as well. Research into the vendors and materials is required to assure a safe product as there is currently no designated watchdog for them.
I have used them for over a decade now and yes they are most definitely a prep item for me. Just like guns, ammo, and alcohol, the legalities will change with time. As with them, the time to put them back is now in my opinion.

Thanks for the breakdown CWI. I kinda figured they were like my kids nebulizer of sorts. I dont know anything about them other than they are a much safer way to deliver flavor and nicotine. I personally do like they only produce water vapor as a by product. Eventually the gov will just tax it however they feel like anyway, legitimacy be damned.
What elements would you put back for barter? Please be specific as I know nothing of how they are arranged. Thanks!

I used to smoke for years, either your going to smoke or not, sticking a electric steamer in your mouth and faking it, well lets just say back in the day we would have referred to you as another word for kitty, course now thats not politically correct. Only fake things worth a crap are boobs, again not politcally correct, feel free to remove the post if I've offended anyone.

I do not think I would stock them. I would stock tobacco, seeds and papers though but then again I do not know much about them and the only time I was around one for any length of time was stuck in a guard shack and the guy smoked it on and off for 12 hours and for the whole time I was nauseous and left with a terrible headache. So I do not ever want to be around them again. I smoke a cigarette every now and then and would rather be around real cigs any day.

In my day which is current, such a statement in person usually ends in an unhealthy manner if it happens outside of work. As for my use, the caffeine hits much faster than a cup of coffee. Something that can be useful. There is no comparison between smoking and these devices. The comparison is driven by the media redefining. Similar to the idea that being black makes a gun an assault weapon, or a semi auto an automatic firearm. As for fake body parts, the only good kind are limb prosthesis and other medically necessary devices. I used to smoke for years, either your going to smoke or not, sticking a electric steamer in your mouth and faking it, well lets just say back in the day we would have referred to you as another word for kitty, course now thats not politically correct. I had purchased some electronic disposable cigarettes, still have some too, but for me they were just another crutch and didn't slow me down smoking much less helping me quit. I cut open the first one I finished smoking to see what made it "tick". The tube contained various cotton filters, two small wires fused to a small battery a little smaller than a AAA and pretty much that was it. So if you wanted to purchase any of the disposable ones for later it would be a waste of money as the batteries will eventually die out and corrode. The open disposables I had, got thrown away, the unopened are still tucked away to give to someone. Now, there are other electronic cigarettes which are non-disposable and needing recharging either through a wall outlet or in your vehicle. Those were a bit pricier for me so I couldn't tell you more about them. What I do have is large bags of tobacco, king size rolling papers, filters and a cigarette rolling machine. No, the tobacco won't be fresh but when a person is having nicotine withdrawal they won't give a flying kite, it's still a cigarette. And I saved the best part for last. 66 days today I'm 100% smoke free!

I think that is best to spend the money on things you are going to need/use during a shtf scenario, than spending the money on barter items you are going to throw in a corner for years which may never end up been used. Now, if you use the electronic cigs by all means stock up. It's just my way of thinking, doesnt mean my way is right.

I see your logic and it does make sense to not go completely overboard on trade items especially if you're struggling to buy main staples to put on the table.

Only fake things worth a crap are boobs, again not politically correct, feel free to remove the post if I've offended anyone. The "kitty" word was overused on me by some much older neighborhood bullies before I was school age; for me, it has a different association and connotation, so I won't bop you for using it. As far as fake things, let's just say that having implants was, at the time, one of the best decisions I made. I come from a family where ALL the men are better endowed than me. It was a huge source of embarrassment when I was a teen, and things only worsened in college since I had neither body fat nor muscle to provide any contour. I envied Twiggy's size. Looking at it 32 years later, I still think it was the right thing to do at the time. As far as e-cigarettes are concerned, I knew nothing of them other than ads for them keep appearing in the spam folder. I don't smoke, never did, never will, and never quite understood why anyone would, so Cwi's explanation came as something of a revelation. As long as I don't have to breathe a smoker's smoke, I really don't care what (tobacco) people smoke.
