Both knives are Case Trapper's from the 1970's. The one on top I bought in Port Hueneme in 1975 shortly after arriving for "A" school. That Case knife hung on my belt for close to 38 years. Amazing how much of the blades were worn down or sharpened away over nearly four decades of hard use. Compare it to the knife on the lower portion of the picture, same vintage, same proofmarks. The blades on the top knife no longer are shielded by the sides of the handle and it's not safe to carry anymore so it's been reassigned to tackle box duty where it will live out what's left of it's days chopping bait, opening cans in camp and generally getting all the crap jobs until it finally breaks. I love my Case knives, both of them and every time I pick up the old Trapper I remember the hunts and fishing trips and the time it got lost for six years as I wandered across three states only to surface as I was cleaning out the garage a couple years ago and felt a need to check a box deep in another box before tossing it in the trash. The "new" one I found at a gun show recently and snagged it and it's sheath cheap. It's been along on several trips with me and my son and will be his after I'm gone (along with the contents of the gunsafe). I know when he takes ahold of it he will remember the hunts and fishing trips we shared and remember as good times

Well done. A good story and I'm sure your son will cherish both. (I'd put the top one in a drawer and save it from 'dirty work' cause your son will appreciate it even more)

My pops carried a Case like that for decades too.

Thanks for the great story. My Grandfather had the same knife, the long blade was always sharp as a razor the smaller blade he used to clean out his pipe.
I have already given my Grandson my favorite pocket knife,

I to had the same knife from 1970-91. It went on many adventures down wild rivers and dark woods, and always made me feel 'better', knowing I had it. Some neighborhood wanna be thug stole it from my truck one night along with other things. Yet even now it still makes me feel 'better', because it was always razor sharp, and I know it will cut him deep and wide every chance it gets. LOLOL

Great stories, Thanks. I also have the large and small trappers, great knives. Also will go to my grandsons one day. The grandsons are of age that I'm slowly giving free some hunting and fishing gear so I can enjoy watching them while I'm still kicking and sharing stories with them in hopes they all will get passed to their children someday.
