Neighbor came over today. His father died last year and left him a gun. Brought it over to show me. Claimed it was a "Russian Mauser like the one Kennedy was shot with". Now, this guy is a retired Captain from a police force i won't mention. When approaching me the dumb butt crossed me with it twice. He proudly handed it to me. Phil, I said, If we weren't neighbors and good friends I'd agree with you that this is a Russian Mauser, however, I think you've brought me a bolt action 12 gauge shotgun.
Sure as snuff, a Stevens Model 58. He wanted to see if it'd shoot so I handed him a shell and stepped inside the house. Kaboom! Shot one round in it. Well, he said, my Dad thought it was a mauser and shot it once himself. I don't know what kind of ammo he use but it was about this long (held his fingers about 4" apart). Well, I said, He's damn lucky he made it to 93 before he died. He also had a double barrel Sam Holt 16 gauge in excellent condition. Claimed it was his great granddaddy's and was over 100 years old. I'm finding it hard to believe anything this guy says!!!! The Sam Holt was probably bought from Sears and Roebuck. I kept his "Mauser" and cleaned it with CLP for him. Gonna hand it back to him tomorrow and . . . RUN! I'ma gonna watch myself around this dude from now on!!!!!!

It is a compounded idiot because the guy was a police chief/captain. We grow up with an expectation there are certain people you can trust and follow. It comes as a shock when we find out half of them are stupider then we are. Used to be you could travel at night with a pack of truckers (I didn't want to say CONVOY) and you could trust their driving. Now all it takes is a few weeks of training and they are pulling 60 tons at 80 MPH and they are the ones going to run you off the road.

But there they are, on the interstate going 70 mph while taking Xanax

Yep those truckers are right next to the retired folks who just bought a 3/4 ton dually pickup and a 35' fifth wheel and they've never pulled so much as a small uhaul trailer. And I figured out I wouldn't be backing it ever So my son pulls it for me while I pull the boat That way I get to still cuss the old people bulling their 35' 5th wheel with their 3/4 ton dually
