Me and a buddy went out yesterday evening to a local lake and caught a good mess of bluegill on our fly rods. We caught forty in all and they filleted up real nice like. Caught them mostly on small olive wooly boogers but, around sunset I switched to a tiny popper and tore them up on that. Good times, hope we get to go again soon.

Ive caught hundreds of those things. It never ceases to amaze me how much bend brim can put in a 7wt fly rod. Everyone is as much fun as the last. Pound fer pound one of the best fighting fresh water fish there is. That's why we call it the poor man's Permit.

Permit? What permit? We don't need no stinking permit!! That's funny, (and a good play on THE most politically incorrect movie of all time!) but, for those who may not know what a permit is.... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permit_(fish)In fly fishing circles it is regarded as probably the top prize to have caught on the fly in saltwater flats fishing. The go upwards of 70 pounds sometimes and are extremely difficult to land and even tougher to get a hook up on. This species is usually high on sport anglers bucket lists.
