That M9 is SWEET! I love the M9 and have one laying right here next to me. I love the feel and the reliability. They are TOUGH sidearms for sure. Tell me about the Five7. I SERIOUSLY been looking at those! WC minus first It feels a little big because of the built in rail and it is a little wide, so it doesn't make a good carry gun. Second the trigger is 7 lbs which is about twice too much to my liking and when I ask about it there is no fix except changing out a spring, which gunsmiths don't know and can't get parts and the factory won't change unless it is out of specs which is 4-7# I thought I might get used to it and I do if I am shoot a box thru but then I shoot others and when I come back to it I hate the trigger. I thought I might clip a little off of the trigger spring and see what happens. I could always say I lost it cleaning and get another. Third the ammo is $30 for fifty. Fourth it sounds like a rifle going off, extremely loud. plus It feels great as far as shooting and aiming, not too heavy. The rounds dbl the weight It shoots great, the rounds are accurate out to 75 to 100 yards without any optics. The standard mag holds 20. It breaks down just like a browning or a colt. Easy to clean and oil, doesn't get too dirty shooting like some, but that is the ammo iI figure. I guess all said if I had it to do over again I would not buy it and buy two more M9's instead.

M9 is a great pistol. Also, so may not agree but in my unit we are taught that is not a safety. It is a hammer release. We did not carry with the "safety" on much to the horror of conventional soldiers.

For those that like the 92 format, there are some out there that are 92"G" models. The G only has a decocker lever that drops the hammer into safe mode, then when you let go of the safety/hammer release lever it pops back up automatically, and is ready to fire single or double action. They are wonderful guns, I carried mine for work, and also used it in all my semi auto schools I attended. I ran thousands of rounds through it. Sure wish I had kept it....along with a few others.

We did not carry with the "safety" on much to the horror of conventional soldiers. NO JOKE!!! It always boggled my mind why anyone would ever put the safety on, on a Beretta! All you have to do is NOT pull the trigger to keep it from going off. The safety will get you killed. In Afghanistan, I never-EVER carried mine with the safety on. When the Safety is "OFF" you can see the RED DOT below the safety on the slide. I got tired of Soldiers saying..."1SG Woods, Your M9 is on Fire." In which I would reply..."If it's on fire, run your A$$ over to that truck and bring me a Fire Extenguisher, while I stand here and mind my own business." What did I do? I took a sharpie Pen and made the red dot...BLACK. No one EVER said anything again. WC

Those are some differences between the M9 G and the 92'.
My barrel is lined and a 10k barrel, My usual carry with a .45 was cocked and locked, another reason I got the M9 I can carry safety off and hammer down and fire first shot dbl action or cock the hammer coming out.
Since I am not a stand in the street gunfighter, If I think I need my weapon it will be in my hand and cocked either behind by back or leg
Many is the time I have held my weapon and only my wive or one of my children ever know.
My people know if you see me with a gun in my hand, look occupied and stay a way from me. If you see me with a weapon in my hand don't say a word, asked me later. If you can do so safely at a critical moment make noise. Never turn any lights on if I get out of bed and go any where but the bath room. Do Not Backlite Me Dangit.
Back lighting me is the one I have to most problems with from a family member.

I have considered carrying one of those plastic ball air guns and when some one turns a light on shooting them with it,
But then they will more than likely be armed and shoot me.
I have considered a kill switch in my room cutting off power to the house.
If I wanted the light on I would have turned one on dag gum dang blasssst it to heck so n so nenny any way

WC My bad Top. I'm getting old and couldn't remember correctly. It was not specific to the barrel. I found the article I read last year. www.armytimes.com/news/2011/08/army-pistols-with-a-shot-at-replacing-m9-82811w/

Shoot, don't worry about that. I have heard some DOOZEY rumors! "Going back to the 45", Going to a Glock, Going to the new 5-7, All kinds of stuff. There's only about 145 BILLION M9s in service, I would think they would be going anywhere anytime soon. I think they are a great Sidearm with a great operational record. WC

Personally I can understand the want of some opinions to change the military sidearm over to a Made in USA pistol.
That being said, before I lost my guns in a freak boating incident, I carried a Glock 17 9mm. I don't get the military's want to go to .40, (I'm more inclined to make the jump back to .45 if anything). I mean this isn't civilian use, they still have to use FMJs. How much difference are you looking in "wound channel" when your cutting a nice lil round circle in someone with a round that's only .045" bigger?
Personally, looking at the "get lead down range" thought process and taking into consideration how much gear our guys/gals have to hump. Give em a poly gun, in 9mm (more rounds/weight and more capacity in the mag)...and revamp the training so there's no need for a safety and so they get more proficient with the weapon.
Ionno, that's just my two cents though...
