So are you in favor of or against lanyards? I assume your MP time in uniform you had a lanyard? I see the benefits sort of but I've never had any appreciation of their value. Obviously nobody wants to have their pistol fall out in a foot chase but it's happened

Well I am for the idea of lanyards
If you dropped your handgun in the woods in the dark having it attached to you would be a good thing.
But in all but a forced march type situation I hate how lanyards get hung up on stuff and some people say a bad guy could grab your lanyard and thereby your handgun, easier then just grabbing your gun, maybe
But this retractable might provide the former while preventing the latter
So I will see.
Also if you were John (by GOD) Wayne you could drop your gun after being shot in the shoulder by a .45 and pull it back to you so you could shoot the bad guy with your left/other hand. (don't want to leave you wrong handed people out)
In conclusion I will say I won't be attaching one EDC but I will have one on my battle belt.

I would like a retractable device like that one if I had a vest mounted weapon holster.

Don't think it would be so easy to do hands across the gulf!

Losing a pair of those used to be a big deal. Won't look good on your commanders change of command inventory. Course that was 30 years ago. They're giving away $80,000 vehicles like lollipops so maybe it's not anything to worry over. See the Cherokees have a second military vehicle now. Guess we might have to go back to cowboys and Indians but with that firepower it might turn out differently this time. That and I believe I heard they got $50 million in the first stimulus package Sorry. Hijacked the thread. Lanyards weapons and NODS

MP's in parades, on shore patrol, main gate of a major facility or at a funeral/etc ceremony might wear a lanyard.
As a Marine MP I think the only time I ever wore a lanyard was when I graduated from the MP school at FT Gordon with the Army. Big ugly white holster with a big ugly white braided lanyard.
Pomp and Show = lanyard
Business as usual = no lanyard
At least in my experience as a Marine MP
I only remember anyone dropping their weapon once. It was in a riot and the rioters pulled this rookie MP out through the window of his patrol truck. His .45 got hung up in the window frame and was pulled loose. One of the rioters picked it up and threw it back threw the window on the seat

It was that poor kids second or third drill with us when he lost them. It was a painful few days for him.
