We finally got some rain, not enough but the first we had this July.
I wanted to remind everyone with livestock about the tip Dink gave us for keeping them cool.
Put 2 litter bottles of water in the freezer and in the hot part of the day put those ice bottles in your rabbit cages and chicken coops whatever.
It will take the temps down a good 10 degrees in a rabbit cage and I have found chickens laying right next to them. Works for dogs too, if they have to stay out.
Just pick up the thawed ones and hose them off and put them back in the freezer for tomorrow.

When it gets real hot, I just leave the cows in the barn and turn on two 5'x5' fans. It creates on heck of a wind tunnel in that barn. That, or I let them go down to the river for a swim. EPA doesn't think much of that, but screw em.

So do they really swim or just wade through the mud?

You ever see the old western movies where the cattle swim the river?...... Dang... I hope my cows never swim the river... That farmer across the way has too many cows already!! Lol, I saw your son today and met his lovely wife and daughter!

Ah, so they ARE on their way home... they're not here yet though.
No, I didn't watch old westerns, but Airborne has informed me that bovines do indeed swim. I thought they probably could.

They can certainly swim, but my cows prefer not to. They generally wade up to their bellies and then sit there splashing themselves with their tail and head.

Sounds something like what I do... minus the ability to swim
