The wife has asked for a pistol for the purse! !! I have little experience with little pocket pistols. I'm going to run up to the range and try a few but am open to any suggestions. I'm thinking I'm going to look at small 9mm and maybe a couple small. 38. Thanks for any input.

I have a Ruger LCP that is a nice size for a purse. It's a little rough on the hand for repeated firing at the range. Depending on how much you want to spend the Sig p238 and p938 (pocket 9mm) are both small and nice to shoot.

If she is going to be doing some good range time, go with the sig or a bersa. Much more comfortable in the hand.

Everything depends on how it fits HER hand, no one else's.

I have the LCP as a pocket pistol. Easy to conceal, gets the job done,no safety to fudge with.

Best advice I have is If she is inexperienced stick to revolvers. They are simpler to operate and if they fail to fire pull the trigger again. For calibers I'd recommend a 38 with critical defense loads. As far as brands, it is like shoes she has to handle it and get what fits her hand best.
Just went through this with my 21 year old daughter. She has been around guns he whole life but not an avid shooter. She is also 5'2" and almost 120. Ergonomics, recoil management, low maintenance, and minimal FTF issues were the drivers for the choice

Everything depends on how it fits HER hand, no one else's. This! If it doesn't fit right, she will never shoot it naturally. If it hurts, she won't practice. My daughter loves her compact 9mm Glock. I don't...... My wife has a hard time racking the slide on small semi auto pistols - and she loves the "point and click" simplicity of revolvers, so she is deadly with her Ruger LCR-357 which is only slightly larger than the LCP. When we compared the trigger pull with the S&W equivalent, the Ruger was easily the winner. I don't mind full house .357 mag loads in that little frame, but that's way, way too much for her small hands, so she runs .38 +P hollow points. Having the ability run cheap, low recoil .38 specials rounds, up to the famous hard hitting .357 magnum from the same gun is handy. (Their LCR in .38 special, is cheaper) Also remember that she can fire a revolver from within a pocket or purse, but a semi auto may not successfully rack the next round if the slide is impeded. BUT, compact revolvers aren't the solution for everyone!! Just something to consider...... Marc

Thanks for the input.

Sig 239 Light weight commander Model 639 My wife is subject to carry any of the above, but her latest favorite and most often carried is the XSE commander. She views my PPK and G30 twins as "girls guns". I don't complain, I get to watch her walk around the house with that colt on her hip. She is very proficient with all. The raging judge resides in her glove box. She can only handle a dozen rounds of 454 at one time, but she feels after dropping the cylinder in the direction of trouble, the trouble will find peace with its maker. Having seen her shoot it, it scares me, and I am not being shot at. Only a fool would keep coming 'if' she missed. If she doesn't, it's a moot point with that monster.

I like your wife's style. Thinking that last one might be a stretch but it's worth a shot.

I like your wife's style. Thinking that last one might be a stretch but it's worth a shot. She's practiced marshal arts since she was three. She tells me it helps with redirecting the recoil letting it deliver through her body instead of through her arms only. Not sure the larger calibers would be wise for someone who can't sort that out. Watching her shoot is interesting. Don't know how else to explain it other than the recoil flows down her arms through a twist in her waist with the larger calibers ending in a foot twist and drag that resembles what she looks when she's about to throw a round house kick.
