What they are reporting is only part of the equation. As Marc made note of, Stingray has been around a while as reinforced by your post. Internet/cell phone kill switches has been a hotly contested subject of the telecommunications industry for some time. Until recently it was not legalized by any state or government. The cat was out of the proverbial bag after the recent Boston bombing in 2013. Stingray works a bit differently, but it too is technically illegal. Regarding the 3500 dollar phone and the referenced popular science article, that kind of phone isn't necessary. I am glad it's raising awareness, but there are some questionable info in the story.

How can someone/group/non US gov entity just go and put up a cell tower someplace? It has to be expensive. What about the land owner? Most of the time a cell tower is being put up there is major discussion, people opposing it...etc. This is just extra strange to me. Never said it wasn't U.S. government. That's the only logical explanation to pull it off. I phrased it that way because one of the articles I read had foreign governments as a potential answer.

Exclusive: Mystery of Rogue Cell Towers Discovered www.dailycollapsereport.com/police-state/exclusive-mystery-rogue-cell-towers-discovered/I had a cell tower built on a piece of property in TN. They bought an acre + paid me a nice lease fee every month. I wouldn't do it again because it was a very big sticking point when I sold the land. But I will say the acre was fenced in but I planted it like a deer plot and shot deer going to and from it.

Ok b33n thinking on this and its tin hat time. What if the towers are meant to pick up from specific messages? Say you knew the gov was monitoring your or someone you need to communicate with phone? Could they just be looking for specific codes and intercepting all transmissions looking for such? Over 6000 foreign nationals missing 11 planes missing ISIS claiming agents already here russia conducting cruise missle training flights against the east coast....maybe its less about someone trying to steal our info and more about hiding communication by someone else...

Who knows. I have quit trying to figure out the why and concentrated more on what I can do. Prepare me and mine and pray it was enough to get through the initial struggle that will likely befall a large population of people and run with it from there. Maybe it is the simpleton in me coming out and I am not smart enough to play the what if games, but I don't. Mainly because it does little good for myself. Not judging any that do and a good thought experiment never hurt anyone but when working on a limited time table as I fear we are it leaves little time for other things.

Sure, but knowing the "why" can sometimes help you decide when and where to zig vs. zag.........
I'm a simpleton for sure.

My point is driven by how I see our society/government/military-industrial complex: With money chasing power to get more money to get more power and money - which brings more power and money........... If I know who I need to avoid, and why they would be interested in me, I can do a better job of being grey to that threat.
Probably just my overly simplistic view of the world.
