This board is only to be used in the direst of emergencies, when we know members live in the affected area and need to be advised to bug out or immediately shelter in place. So there is no misunderstanding, our admins (and I) will make the final decision about posting. Let me be more specific with some hypothetical situations. Let's say a passenger just arriving on a plane from Namibia suddenly vomits blood inside LaGuardia Airport and collapses. That's troubling, yes. Does it warrant posting here? No. But let's say that passenger is taken to a hospital where he is found to have ebola, now does THAT warrant posting here? Still no. That's too general a health threat. How about if the press reports a lone gunman holed up in an office building in downtown Seattle, taking potshots at pedestrians and cars on the avenue below? Nope again. That doesn't call for everyone to bug out or start tarping over their windows and filling their bathtubs. Now what about this? The New York Times receives a letter allegedly from ISIS, saying that sleeper cells all over the nation are going out to public places such as malls, sports stadiums and airports to release deadly diseases in aerosol or powder form, one suspicious such event already seems to have happened in Kansas City, and the CDC is calling for a news conference in half an hour. Do we post it THEN? Oh you betcha. That's a specific, credible threat that apparently affects everybody and we would all need to be poised to do our survival thing on a moment's notice. Even if the emergency wasn't nationwide but confined to a region, it's still relevant.
When posting, please try to be as specific as possible in the headline, giving the location of the threat so it can be seen at a glance. In the case of the ISIS thing, "ISIS smallpox threat nationwide" would do. I hope you get my drift here because we really need one place, free from clutter, where we can tell immediately if it's time to bug out or hunker down. Try to PM me first with your proposed post and if I don't respond within an hour or two, say, then send it to all three admins next and whoever sees it first will act on it.
Let's hope we never have to use this board.
