Anyone interested in posting your favorite shooting drills.
I spent a couple hours today at the range and was upset with how much I have lost.
The most eye opening was
Load one round, drop the magazine, shoot the round and then dry fire after the first round.
I was quite jumpy today. So I bought a glock blue label for a ridiculous price to calm the nerves.

I like doing ones at a 3x5 note card at about 7-10 yds. Various set ups like double feed, ftf, dbl taps, stove pipes, etc. Put times on the drills and everything outside the card is a miss. It will tighten your groups up alot. The theory is aim small, miss small.
I also like positional shooting - down on both knees, lying on your right/then left side shooting, on your back, seated on your butt, and prone. Also practice offhand unsupported in these positions to really test yourself.

I like weak and strong barricade, standing , kneeling and sitting. Malfunction drills of all kinds. Drawing, making ready, firing and reloading with the off hand as if wounded. (Harder than u think) Also engage multiple targets from a defensive posture laying on the ground. Often used in some circles is take two or three guys all shooting different brand guns, have another person field strip all the guns and lay the parts in a heap of mixed metal on a table or tail gate. Make sure the players are not aware until the buzzer sounds, of which drill they are about to do, and then still shoot the coarse. Stress the time factor. Some really crack up. What ever gives folks the desire to practice. And have fun.

Actually anything freehanded. I got started with silhouette shooting. For me I found stronghand or weakhand once I became proficient, supported/ barricade became second nature.
Those chickens, turkeys, rams out to100 yards freehand with open sights on a Mark I will tell the tale, least it did for me....

To me, there is no one size fits all drill. This is especially true when it comes to any form of benchmark. Lot of people come up with various drills on the range but never test them against a benchmark.
IDPA, Cowboy action shooting, anything that applies a pressure factor should be incorporated in my opinion. Even air soft and paint ball is better than nothing.
Whatever a person's choice of p factor is, that is where the manufactured malfunctions, off hand shooting, simulated wounded, etc should be employed.
Try timed barricade shooting with your strong arm in a sling, and dummy rounds randomly placed in more than one magazine. Leg splints will do a number on this as well. An eye patch over your dominant eye will as well.
Food for thought. YMMV

having grown up in the uk and never considering guns for protection (you are more likely to end up with a custodial sentence than the perp if you use a gun to defend yourself in the uk) the only gun drills we ever ran was target practice to zero the scope after any form of modification or mainenance

I do alot of laying, prone, kneeling shooting at the outdoor range. This was at the indoor range. I really like laying on my bag with my feet in front and firing between my legs. The issue is I like shooting that way so I need to learn some ways I don't like to practice. Thanks for the ideas.
If anyone is in the market for a full size pistol, a little bird told me a glock 17 is really nice.

Like CWI said, IDPA is great practice and almost more fun than should be allowed. Very minimal investment cause you shoot your stock daily carry if you want to. A belt holster and mag pouch plus a cover vest and your out blastin bad guys. Im try'in to talk thywar into a match, LOL
