So I'm reading this slowwwww novel and there's been an EMP attack in LA (well probably everywhere but work with me). There is a sheriffs substation and of course there are only 5-6 deputies cause nobody can get to work. The sgt tells them to get all of the long guns from the safe. You know the safe with the ELECTRONIC lock. Since I only own a RG .22 pistol I don't need a safe. Isn't there some way to get into an electronic safe in the event of a power failure or loss of battery power? Also that made me think about this really cool Casio watch I wear. Hmmmm. I think I need one of those simple 'you wind it yourself timex' watches for $12.

Anyone with knowledge of how to get in if the electronic lock is busted, would hopefully not be so stupid as to fess up to that knowledge publically.

About half way through it. I would think there would have to be some kind of manual override because stuff happens. Makes me wonder about electronics combinations.

It is in the case of an EMP (or other event that would cause failure to the electronic lock) that I would rather have a safe that also has a manual lock that will override the electronic one or just a mechanical lock for said safe.

I had a key pad go bad and Cannon had to send out a repair man to install a new one. That took several days. Now I keep a large can opener. In case I need my sling shot.

FYI Those keypads can be replaced with a tumbler rotating disk.

I won't buy them....if just a battery going dead prevents me form getting in......not worth it. Besides unless you spend a lot of money the safe are to keep the kids out, or buy some time...won't help much for some one that is serious about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmobzaLyGw0

CWI, it is a big question for me as far as EMP type event. Not only is the key pad very sensitive to punture from use, it is electric, plus there is a motor inside the door. BUT when the factory rep came I asked about changing to rotory combo locks. He said it was not an issue except in his experience he changes out ten to one more tumbler locks, so...what to do? Be EMP proof, or have a much higher probability of wear failure? I'm getting ready to buy another safe...? But which one? FYI Those keypads can be replaced with a tumbler rotating disk.

If your getting a new one, get the tumbler. Remember the factory rep and customers of his are not thinking along these lines. The customers are far more likely thinking convenience.

I have the electronic lock on mine. May need to look into this a bit more. Never really gave it much thought. I also need to bolt mine down too although, I do keep alot of ammo in it and all filled up like it is it is freaking heavy.
One idea I like is "decoy" guns. Keep the safe hidden and have a couple of cheap guns under the bed, in the corner or whatever (internally disabled firing pin of course) to give the crack heads an easy mark that will maybe satisfy them from looking further. You also give them bait that can be tracked if lucky enough to be caught by LE.

Ummm he's full of $%#! in so many ways. If it's made with 'steel', it can be cut. Design design design. That is the order of the day.
