While I get the tactical sense of alternating your rounds - hp/ball/hp etc. but, wouldn't that pose an issue in court that you were "loading up for a fight" to be "more deadly" or whatever angle the slimy lawyer can come up with?

In a word YES!
But the lawyer would be wrong in pursuing that track.
Because the rounds, while more powerful, from a knock down standpoint, are designed to spread rather than go through and hit someone else.
Thus the argument that in carrying this ammo, I wanted to end the confrontation as quickly as possible, while doing what I could to avoid injuring bystanders.
I would never try a defense based on I did not intend to kill when I fired, that would not be defensible. Better to admit that my mindset was to kill as quickly as possible and end the threat. My defense would be I would only fire if I believed my life or someone elses life depended on killing the threat.

Shot placement and practice
However, my continued heath issues are only going to get worst for my ability to shoot the eye out of anything.
I have accepted I will have to settle for the center mass shots.
Its that or stop carrying and I don't see that happening.
We buried one of my stepfathers with a pair of .44 derringers in his pockets, that sounds about right to me.
Consecutive serial numbers too. I have had 3 pair of consecutive serial numbers so far. A pair of short barreled frontier Colts, those derringers and a pair of WWII era .380 Berettas.
A different stepfather ran a pawn shop for years and whenever he would pick up a pair of consecutive serial numbers he would give me first chance at them.

I have only had a very few consecutive sets. Folks bought me a pair of Smith n Wesson mod 66's when I turned 21. Like a kid I used them to near destruction with years of full house (some beyond) ammo. When Winchester sold out I bought a set of octagon 45 lc and 38/55 delux rifles. My last was a set of three Ruger vaqueros in 45lc one for me and each daughter. Probably the last ones. But there is a gun show tomorrow.....

I once had a set of Barretta 9 mms with consecutive serial nos. See at one time I had good taste in firearms. Now look at me. Reduced to proudly carrying an RG. LOL

since you were an officer in the Army getting the supply officer to let you hold a set of consecutive numbered firearms for a few minutes does not count

As a general rule of thumb, carrying the same rounds as the LEO do in your area gets you around the legal challenges. Fortunately for me, between the city, county, and state, that offers a wide range of options. Calibers are 38/357, 9mm, .40 and .45, the majority carry Glock or 1911, Ruger GP, with a few carrying smiths. There are some odd Sigs here and there. Most prevalent are Glocks, followed by 1911. 9mm and 45ACP for the rounds.
I used to carry a 380 and sometimes a 38.
After researching defense cases, I found it was a bad idea to be caught out with the wonder bullets no one else carries around here.
Right and wrong doesn't help you when you lose everything you own due to legal cost. Reality is that what you carry matters. It ain't right, but it is reality no matter how much it sucks.
The prosecutor is severely curtailed in legal maneuvering of that nature when you're carrying what the cops are both in rounds and firearms.
