Does anyone here have one? Not necessarily an authentic one, but one that they practice with or do some cutting (tatami ??) with? I have been reading alot about these lately for my own interests and was wondering what you all have to say about them. Just looks like a cool weapon with a facinating history.

I have a Paul Chen, it is not bad and holds a nice edge. I used to do alott of cutting with it. I think ten years ago it was $200.00. I have a nice in the blade and I bent it somehow, can't remember how. I bent it back and it is fine, still cuts great. I also have a practice Iadio. That set me back a good amount.
They are under Chen or Hanwei, made in China, I think some of the earlier ones were made in India, still for the price it is a nice beater to practice with.

I think they're a kewl weapon and have learned a few things myself about them on NatGeo. The Real McCoys cost lots of moolah but they're worth the price.

Never had one with a true cutting edge, but I have one that I used when I was still taking Mugai Ryu Iaido classes in Okinawa.
Interesting thing I learned recently is that each honest-to-God katana is registered in Japan as a piece of art as opposed to a weapon.

i had a cheapo replica when i was younger, i think the blade was made from play-do though i would love a traditional katana made from tagahamane (iron sands) but i would rather buy a house with that kind of money than a sword this documentry shows a how they make traditional katana www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4Huv_Ntr7Q

I reckon if they're that close I've run out of .22 bullets or the RG failed me. Time to pull out the Estwing 'hawk and Crashblade and act like Mel Gibson in The Patriot. I won't be as successful but hey, you can't live forever.

Were the ones used and captured during ww2 good quality. May know an old guy I bought some guns from that had two sets, of long n short ones, from seperate island encounters. He was selling off a bunch of old stuff. I got a Lee Enfield 303 jungle carbine from him, my favorite plus several more.
