Thank you for replying It is a great fire for when you have others things to do. This type fire works best with hard wood,pine goes up to fast.

Good stuff, offtrail! A self-feeding fire could be really nice at night when you'd rather sleep than keep having to get up to toss another log on the old camp fire.

I'm beginning to really prefer the upside down fire to the old teepee style I normally make. I suppose they both have their uses. The upside down fire would be the one to build for a sleepover campfire, especially if temps are down. The teepee style would be used for short cooked meals, long term cooking I'd prefer a Dakota fire pit.

we used to use them in the uk in the winter so your fire didnt disapear into the snow lol
