It's turkey season. As an alternative to some in the vehicle EDC backpack you might grab a turkey hunting vest. It provides different options maybe that would suit you in an emergency. I keep a vest hanging close with all kinds of stuff (including an inside holster). Tornado comes I can grab it and have stuff to get me through 24 hrs easy
Can you tell I got a cabelas flyer in the mail

I was trying to find the one everyone was wearing in the most recent Hunger Games movie lol It prob doesn't exist. I think the Ogio Flight Hydration Vest looks pretty functional (or their "flak vest"). I believe they were designed for snowboarding.
There's also the functional looking vests from a company called UMPQUA. Overall, in my opinion though, even though I think the vests are kind of cool, I think having a rugged double strapped backpack is far more serviceable.

Just go to cabelas website, or bass pro or academy or even WM. They're all pretty much the same design with clever little pockets for mouth calls, ammo, and most have some type of cushion attached for sitting motionless on the ground for hours scraping a box call. Also a large game bag attached to carry your bird if you get lucky.

As you have said it has plenty enough pockets inside and out to stuff with all kinds of survival goodies. The large bag on the back to carry your game is ideal for carrying my light weight small tent and bed roll. TW you get flyers, my next door neighbor must own shares in Cabela's 'cause his sale catalog is a hard covered book. I thought he was pulling my leg when he told me this until he showed me his copy.

Our turkey season starts Wednesday......
My favorite vest has serviced me well since 1990...and looks it. Tug marks from barbed wire, dried turkey blood, sewed up rips...zippers repaired with all sorts of colored thread.
Weeds, seeds, and grass in the pockets.....empty shells to "sniff'...love the smell of fired 12 ga shells....LOL...and extra choke 10- 12 ga 4x6 duplex shells, and a couple of 12 ag 3-1/2 #4 Heavi Shot...for luck. 12 ga shell with 16 ga empty with matches in it (old timey match box)
Chalk dust everywhere in two pockets, candy/candy wrappers(age?)... spent hand warmers/ new hand warmers and various calls, knifes, lighters, face masks, gloves, regs, maps, permission slips, mini binocs, space blanket. Small FAK. Game pouch,....two plastic garbage bags,... poncho, orange head band/pin on cloth, extra watch hat, decoy/stake.... Morning of hunting, mini thermos, water bottle....fresh snacks.
Who ever designed it did a heck of a job,... zippers work the correct direction, both sides (close forward), plenty of pockets in right places, drop down seat water proofed, and still give some padding..
Can you tell I love my vest?.......And do wonder why more people don't use them....Their loss.
Don't really like "assault/M&P vests....too many magazine pouches and not much else. Don't like fishing vests...don't hold up in the brush.
