Nope not the old movie, real live neighbors living near you!
This weekend I had some time after work to get a couple .22 cal's out (one is REALLY loud) and a neighbor showed up. This guy is a local business owner and I knew who he was.
He acted nervous at first and mentioned that he heard the shooting and followed the sound and wanted to introduce himself to someone that might be like minded...someone that he may be able to count on to help keep our neighborhood safe should the SHTF. So we chatted up for a half hour or so and think I may have found that rich secret prepper friend that we so often find in SHTF novels from Amazon Kindle.
Invited the family down to his place for a cookout or just to shoot the bull. He is married with two kids and not so much a hermit as someone that just goes to work, the store and home and due to his libertarian disposition and live and let live disposition, and of course a noted perspective on all things national and global politics, he just figured it was just too much trouble explaining himself to those less inclined to see the forest. His wife and kids are slowly coming around and finally embraced the idea of carry guns and all have them now but from what I gathered in a half hour he was really jonesing for someone to talk or hang with that was at least interested in shooting sports.
oh he is 62 years old and specifically asked if I had some tech knowledge to help set up some SHTF communications and how to protect from EMP or how to properly cache items for future use.
I figure this feeling out process will go on for a bit before we get to the bones of what exactly he is in fear of but we touched a couple times on the economy and just how difficult our policy makers are making it small business owners.
My first thought was well he is working for the Government and only has my best interest at heart.....but knowing WHO he is I have let my guard down a little.
So what ya think? I know he is quite wealthy, I know where he works, lives, drives(for the most part) and that he has a good reputation as friendly and helpful and giving to kids that worked for him to help them go to college or keep their cars running so they can make it to work and such.
Oh and he was very respectful to me and my family during his visit.
