A good example of people uising the barter system to get around the government BS...but also shows a perfect example of how the banks can still step in and take it all away becasue bartering/trading goods doesn't pay the cash mortgages. I hope they don't loose their place. At least they are trying.

Yeap, sooner or later we will all be in the same shoes just to survive. Looks like humanity is heading back to the beginning of time full speed ahead.

That is sad. The bad part is that even if they manage to pay the bank the taxes on the farm might go unpaid and the government might take it then. Greeks are no strangers to bloody fighting, this could get ugly if things persist.

makes me happy i have chickens with a (seemingly) endless method of producing more chicks...
though I've never raised chicks without electricity before; but i'm sure we could figure it out (with the help of Old Ma Nature and some mama hens)

If/when I find them, I will post it. If nothing else, one could make talo oil and such to operate a lamp specifically for an incubator...smell might be a bit rank, but thats what sheds are for, right? Just want to make sure you have the oil needed to run it for the 20+ days needed depending on what kind of eggs are in it! Having a few butcher roosters or laying pullets to trade would be a good thing!! www.lehmans.com/store/USA_Made___Tools_and_Farm___Farming___Kerosene_Powered_Chicken_Egg_Incubator___344462#344462

We are actually seeing quite a bit of bartering going on already around here. We have done more of it this year than ever. Several folks have come to us wanting to "trade" items. We have bartered our chickens, rabbits, goats, wire, metal barrels, and an old garden tiller I replaced with a newer one last year, for several different items. A lot more folks are coming to us with bartering on their minds. Interesting trend.

Flea markets are staying open and trading more as well and there isn't enough space around the courthouse for the farmers trading goods.

When the banks and/or government comes to take land/homes in the situation Greece is in I think the community would band together and stop them. I would not want to have the job of trying to force people out of their homes during a SHTF situation.

From the Financial Times.. It's really bad there folks.. ''The political paralysis has both quickened the outflow of deposits from Greece’s teetering banks and put on hold an EU-funded effort to recapitalise them. Business leaders say they can no longer obtain the most basic credit – even when they boast solid order books. Making matters worse, the government, which controls much of the economy, has stopped paying its bills. As of last month, it owed nearly €7bn to the private sector.'' www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/e79024a2-ba28-11e1-84dc-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1yEyCxt5D
