I want to store some gasoline. Of course, it has ethanol in it. (The one place that I knew of that still sold gas without ethanol stopped doing it.) I want to stabilize it for longer storage. So what do I buy? I see that Stabil has the old formula for gasoline, but also has a formula for gas/ethanol. So what do I use? Here is the link for info on Stabil, but I am sooooo very confused. www.goldeagle.com/brands/stabil/default.aspx

FYI if you get gas from a Marina or boat dock 99.999% of the time its ethanol free.

+1 on the PRI-G, have used it to protect and to restore. It is a bit high but worth it for a large quantity.

Around here marina gas is almost $1 higher per gallon and you still have to stablilize it. Plus at this marina next to me it's 95 octane I believe. Ya know.... for the big boats with the big motors

I just rotate my gasoline supply about every 6 months to keep it fresh. How much are you wanting to store?

I use PRY-G fuel stabilizer for gasoline engines and found it to be way better than Stabil which is good for about a year if that. I have used PRY-G and stored gasoline for up to 4 years with no problems (done this on purpose to test the product), the icing on the cake was when I went to use my wood chipper that had gas in the tank for 6 years; the gas smelled OK, and when I pulled the cord after priming it only took one pull of the cord to get it going, I was really impressed! This had sold me on using this product on all my generators, lawnmower and garden tractor, boats, and any gasoline that needs to be stored for any length of time. Mike

You guys are the tops.
Fenster, I am wanting to store about 25 gallons. Trying to rotate that much is a chore. I 'm not saying it can't be done, it is just that it would take a bunch of time. I had planned to try to store a 55 gallon drum worth, but hurt my leg and never got it done.
TJ, that info helps.
Penn Mike, thanks for the info.

hm, I carry 2 - 2.5 gallon jugs in the bed of my pickup for work tools, I usually dont park the truck without at least one of them full, gets rotated in to the truck if it starts to get aged but that doesnt happen often. 5 gallons of gas will get my truck about 100 kilometers (60 miles), I dont have any generators etc so thats about all I would need it for in a get home situation. Also makes a wonderful fire starter ;-)

I store 20 gallons for my generator and for bug out situations. It is a bit of a chore, but I rotate 10 gallons into my car every 6 months to keep it fresh.

Sooo, six months is about the rotate deadline? Give or take? To store 6 mos does it have to be stabilized or is it ok without?

Well, if gas prices ever go down again I'll refill our containers. What was stored got used up when the gas prices shot back up again, and one of us was concerned about how Stabil would keep the gas useable past a season or two.

stabil directions state that using the directions, the gas is good for 12 months. I would think that you would want to use NON stabilized gas sooner than 6 months.
