Ok, on the list the one thing I would not mind bartering, and know for a fact people will kill for is cigarettes. How would be the best way to preserve n store them? How long is there life span?

Go to Walmart. Buy the big can of pipe tobacco. Buy 20 packs of rolling papers. Don't open any of them. Seal as tightly as you can. There's gold in two kinds of papers. One comes in a roll that you pull off and flatten. The other one is flat and you roll it. You can get a lot of stuff with either. Don't forget to stock up on tobacco plant seeds. They're better than Jack's magic beans cause people will think they can grow tobacco forever.

Ok, on the list the one thing I would not mind bartering, and know for a fact people will kill for is cigarettes. How would be the best way to preserve n store them? How long is there life span? You know Okie, people have bought cartons of cigarettes or bags of tobacco to keep hopefully fresh by storing them in their freezers. Very few of us have the resources to maintain our freezers working should the power grid goes down. Sooo...what happens to these items which have been stored this way? They begin to sweat and before you know it you have a mess of soggy tobacco products which begin to mildew. Yes, you could open all the packs and try drying the items to salvage them. People who want a cigarette bad enough and yes I've been there, will smoke a cigarette no matter how stale the tobacco is. I've bought bags of tobacco and packs of rolling papers to make cigarettes. They're stored up in buckets if I need them. I'm sure they won't be turned away. Same thing with aged cans of beer, desperate people will still drink them. Now if you play smart like Thywar and buy tobacco seeds to plant, his tobacco products may make a better trade because of the freshness of the tobacco. Me, I'm not gonna stress over it. I'm sure many hard up smokers will be more than happy to smoke my stale stuff should it come to that point.

Personally, I have no real desire to have anything around that folks will kill for - if things really go south... By the time we become civilized enough to trust trading without numbers to defend I will be long dead most likely.... I won't say I would not be trading but my trading will mostly be done by hunting/farming and try like hell not show show my hand ... The sad truth is most of us will not survive past the first year mark... Do not misunderstand me friends... the only reason any of us will survive is because we prepared but some things I just have no desire to have around because of the folks that would be attracted to it in the first few months...

You do bring up a great point and I understand your reason for it. It is something to think about.

It must be good stuff, I never tried it. Living in a house with 4 pack aday parents I hated it. I do know for a fact that in a closed environment respectable people will trade food drugs sex anything for a smoke. Could be worth having?

What else can you smoke (besides marijuana)? Rabbit Tobacco! Anyone ever heard of it? Use to sneak around behind the barn, roll it in a brown paper sack paper . . . Naaaassssttttyyy! Must grow better in South GA. Don't see it much this far north. Does seem somewhat beneficial though: www.thesouthernherbalist.com/articles/rabbit_tobacco.html

I'm sure once addicts start going through withdrawal of whatever their addiction is, they'll start experimenting with many other dried leaves to get their fix. Maybe we should just collect rolling papers and pipes then let them find what they want to use them for.
