Unfortunately age takes a toll on old joints. There was a time when a 15 mile 75# ruck was no problem. Now I am doing good to make 3 with 75, or 15 with 35. Either leaves me on the invalid list the day after with swollen knees, ankles, and a lower back that feel like they are being hammered by midgets.
Docs tell me there is nothing they can do to help, it's just a product of being banged up one time too many and age.
Anyone have any suggestions on this or should I reconsider the finer points of pasture life?

Are you having cartilage and/or arthritis issues? If so you can try using Knox gelatin as a joint supplement. I have friends that swear by it and I just start taking some myself this week ... I figured I would give it 3 months and see....

I"ve been dealing with this for the past year building the house. (I'm 70 this year) Bottom line is you just have to push yourself through the pain. Go one more step when you think you can't. No, It ain't fun but old age ain't for whimps.
Furthermore, recognize your limitations. Dr. Jim advised me to "Choose your battles". Find alternate ways of doing things. (Pull wagon for heavy loads, hand trucks, rolling tool boxes, loader on tractor = 10,000 uses, before man-handling anything, sit down and think! etc.) I'm still working on how to pitch a 3/4" 4x8 sheet of plywood up on the saw horses, Use to do it no problem!! Do most of the cutting on the floor with 2x4s under the plywood.
Just recently got a severe ear infection from one of my hearing aids. Doc prescribed ibuprofen. I've rarely ever succumbed to pain meds preferring to "push through the pain". HOWEVER!!! for the last two days on the Ibuprofen. . . Wow! what a difference. When a large task looms from now on a 400 mg will be on the list!
Glucosamine. Will have to try the Know Gelatin after I research it a bit.

Are you having cartilage and/or arthritis issues? Yes and yes. Will give your suggestion a try. Geron, that is pushing through the pain. Every day since I was 16. The pain isn't as much an issue as going to the point of losing motor skills. Legs just don't want to cooperate after a point.

Getting old with damages suffered earlier in life.....just plain sucks.
I have a shoulder a hip and a knee that ain't so perfect - but I am very, very fortunate thus far. Now, if I can just do something with the brain part of the equation.
Or, was it brain fart - I forget......

I have serious knee issues - cartilage and arthritis as well. What I have found that helps (note I said helps) is regular exercise to include walking and weight training (with light weights). I also take a supplement for joint health (Move Free Ultra (not the plus)). I still have to be careful (downhill is my nemesis, but Florida doesn't have too much of that.

I should add ----- on the weight training ------ there are some exercises that I used to do all day long that I cannot do at all. I/you/we just have to find what will work and then stick with it.

I am doing about a 1/4 of the Knox gelatin powder packet for now. It can be mixed with about anything really but I just dump it into 8 ounces of water and drink it....

You can find loads of you-tube vids to show you how to do it correctly for some things, for others you would probably need a "sports" doctor type to show you how to properly apply it. It allows the supporting muscles to actually heal if they are the issue while supplying the needed support to the body...

Yes old age sucks, and I'm only coming up on 66
Some mornings nothing wants to work
back locked-up, hands and knees won't bend
stumble to the bathroom, then to get coffee and walk around the yard till they loosen up
try a hot tub after exercise to lessen the impact the next day
also check your potassium level,
I take a multi-vitamin for old guys and an extra potassium
just damaged everything too much when it didn't hurt as much or take as long to get over it and paying the price now

This is the group that the Boss Lady recommends.... She also said to make sure and get the synthetic KT tape over the cotton due to better durability and water resistance. Here is another good resource - www.physio-pedia.com/Kinesiology_Taping-The_BasicsThis is something to be very careful with because you can do more harm if done improperly then good...

Tilled some stuff into the garden Saturday. 3 rods, 6 screws and 8 shims doesn't allow for a lot of bending and wrestling a tiller or anything else. I run it about 30-40 minutes back and forth, diagonally, in a square. Then I'm done. Then it's time for Vitamin 'I' (ibuprofen). My failed hike two yrs ago that only lasted three days exposed a lot of things that I have trouble with. And I'm only going to be 65. I take multi vitamin, glucosamine and I drink a 20 oz protein shake in 2% milk every morning that really helps. I feel better, don't eat as big of a breakfast (unless I go to 'the Egg'). Anyway, the benefit of being this age is I've lived a great, exciting life full of adventures, joys, and some heartache. My kids are grown. Running isn't in my future cause I'll just die tired. So pull up an easy chair, sip some 'shine, Glock and Load!!!
