Well, once again I got out to tank up my truck plus pick up a few more groceries. Now I plan on staying home to watch some old classic movies I ordered.

As a general rule, -25F is the breakpoint for breathing cold air without protection. Anything less than 0 but more than -25F is dangerous but not deadly depending upon physical exertion. The previous two sentences are assuming a normal healthy person. Anyone with COPD or other lung conditions can be affected up to 32F or for that matter, any area with really dry air regardless of temperature. Below -25F we get past the point where the lungs can humidify and warm the air enough to prevent damage. Unprotected stay times become important. The longer your in it, the more likely you'll be damaged. The term lung burn isn't actually a burn though it can feel like it. Constriction of capillaries etc within the lungs is the source of this. Despite what a lot of online sources will tell you, it is possible to get frost bite or worse in your lungs at -25 or below. www.runnersworld.com/ask-the-sports-doc/will-my-lungs-freeze-on-a-cold-runThat's an example of bad advice online. He makes this statement in the article; In other words, he has no experience below -20F. Having worked in much colder climes, and having been trained to do so, my experience is a mask can save your lungs, and for the deep cold, it'd better be warmed and cover your eyes as well. If you have lung conditions, it'd better be life or death need. Otherwise stay inside. My .02.

I think a balaclava (maybe with a watch cap under it) and clear safety glasses (or safety sunglasses) should be in your preps. A wool scarf as well. Cold can be debilitating and extended periods of being in it can surely kill you

It has been many, many years, but when I was in Alaska for the original pipeline project between Fairbanks and Prudoe(1975/76) I quickly learned how cold will kill you in one big hurry. At extreme levels, bad things can happen before you've even realized your mistake.
With a lot outdoor activity experience at 120F, I would much prefer to deal with extreme heat than cold.
Now I'm mild southern climate wimp.Y'all be careful out there!

Was three degrees with -8 windchill this morning. It's 11* now heading to single digits. But hey, it's winter. It's supposed to be cold and we needed the freeze to kill the little crawly critters and make the blueberries grow for next season.

Cold all week here (I'm loving it) too. The news and weather people are almost giddy with the prospect of "potential" snow tomorrow. When I moved here in 89 it snowed. I was just a few months removed from living in the Pacific Northwest, so I thought cool..............until I realized that 80% of the people here had never seen snow much less driven in it.

It's SO cold here right now that I'm half tempted to put on a sweater. A freezing SEVENTY FOUR DEGREES! And I've had to shovel sunshine off the driveway twice today just so I could get the van out to go shopping. I don't know if I can take this extreme weather. I may just have to hibernate in the bedroom with the tv remote and Dominoes pizza delivery until spring.

I jinks myself with the "as long as it stays dry" statement.
Water froze at the pressure tank
It has a box around it and had a light in the box
But the bulb burned out and water was froze up this morning
got out a heat tape and wrapped it around the pipes in and out of the tank and around the pressure gauge and it thawed out in a manner of minutes
but if the electric was off here and the temp was below 30* very long we would have a problem the way it is set up.
ice storm in 2014 knocked out the power for 10 days but it wasn't near as cold
have a generator for the house hooked into the breaker, but don't have that extension on it, so need to do something about that when it warms up some.
20* here right now with below freezing every night until next Monday, unusual for around here
must be global warming
