Now if we can just convience the rest of the military to follow suit. I for one tend to listen a little closer when the SF community starts talking.

Very cool. American made and a better choice all around IMHO. If I were going to war I'd choose the 1911 too.

It's been around 100+ years that has to say something.

I like the American made.. I like the .45... I wish they had the same number of rounds as the Glock .45. But then I'm happy the Marines are happy. It's all a good thing.

Got one and love it...I've got a Springfield 1911A1 (seen in my avitar) and will say it's a little picky on ammo though.

I've got both...Glock 22 and 1911A1. Now the 22 is naturally a .40 cal where as the 1911A1 is .45 acp. Both have their advantages. I carried the 1911A1 until I obtained the 22. The advantage of the 22 is quite simply the additional rounds carried but if you shoot an assailant 16 times, the court is going to ask you why....to which my answer would be..."that's all it will hold." Where as the 1911A1 is going to only poke 8 holes (standard 7 round magazine and yes...I do carry cocked and locked)...I like the additional weight of the 1911A1 thus reducing the recoil and allowing me to get back on target sooner...but with the addition of a light (Streamlight SR1 or SR2) or even a tungsten guide rod, the Glock 22 gets back on target very quickly but most folks don't have these additions. So with all that said...and the training these guys will get v/s the training I have...these guys will be able to do the same thing with 8 rounds as most people will be able to do with 16!!!!

The Colt Rail Gun (the 1911 chosen for USMC SOC) can be found on the public market. Pretty hefty price last I checked, but I want one anyway.

I'm no pistol expert, but seems to me 12,000 rounds wouldn't be much of an expected length of life, especially for a military pistol. How bad must the others have been?

Just guessing but I think someone probably said 'let Colt win and bring back the 1911'. If they can figure out the problem and make it right I'm for it.. cause any American made product is good for US AND THE MILITARY... but if not.. then it's time to do what is right.

I read both the article and replies and wonder why Colt did not use alloy like the commander. My Recon is an alloy frame of the commander with an officer barrel, slide and guide rod. The only issue is the retainer fly out which is an easy opgradeing
