Was out today doing some fishing and looking for tinder fungus. No fish but look what I found. It's a tinder fungus but unlike most i find around here. This one is brown on the bottom all the other ones are gray on the bottom. Can't wait for it to dry so I can carve it up and get to the soft spongy insides. That's the part that holds an amber. I also had to climb out over the water on a dead tree to get it it was worth it.

This is one of the gray tinder fungus I find most often. It has changed color since it dried but you can see the difference

Have you ever used one to make a fire? If so how did it do? It does a good job and once it catches a spark and forms an amber. You just drop it into a tinder bundle like dry grass and blow on it until the heat builds and it burst into flame. They also make good coal extenders. I have a video I will see if I can find it .

no I did not I have over 200 in the house right now go get them for friends to paint on all the time I also think they would make nice little shelves for nick knacks. Just attach it to the wall like it's growing out of it. Saw the top flat for the shelf. use two of them and hang a gun from them.
