Ha, Ha, Ha, so true........I bet he looks like a duck standing on its head with its rear feathers sticking up. LOL I think you spend more time IN the water then in your boat! Oh wait, that's why you're the duck man! ;D ;D ;D

Well it looks like the powers that be are trying to cut my duck season short. I hunted the river yesterday afternoon and on the way home my old trucks transmission decided to finally give up the ghost. I've been limping it along for a while now and have been gettin by by taking it as easy as I can but last night I had to limp back to the house in mostly 1st gear and sometimes 2nd. That's about 11 mph! BUMMER! I'm going to make a stab at fixing it as best I can today since I can't be in the duck woods. I know it needs a Output Speed Sensor and I will do a complete band adjustment on it too. While I'm at it I may go ahead and flush the system including the torque converter although I really don't think that has much to do with it? After today I only have 9 days left and I sure hate like the dickens to miss out on those last days. I may have to borrow moms vehicle just to get me down to the swamp. It doesn't have a trailer hitch on it so I'll have to leave my boat behind. I will have to hoof it in and out and just carry my decoys and such. Fortunately I do have a dozen inflatable decoys that I can make room in my pack for and not have to drag the full bodies in with me. The other big hang up is I have my last job sitting here waiting to be picked up and paid for, it's been done for a week now and I really need that $300 for gas and those truck parts. It looks like I'm going to have to be really creative and pull one out of my.....uhhhh....HAT to get through to the end of the season!

Well I got creative and pulled off what I thought would be a good one and save what's left of the season. I got a job to do 4 dining room chairs that would pay me $300. I had to recover them in a fuax leather stuff. I did a wham slam get er done don't stop to eat and I got em done and delivered in just enough time to get paid and get to the bank. Problem was, customer didn't like a material flaw in the back of the back on one chair! So......I didn't get paid and now I gotta redo one chair. I'm now sittin here inside my stupid house looking out the window watching the sunrise to a clear blue sky wishin I was getting cold and wet in the swamp! The other problem is that it's not just today I lose. I also lose Sunday AND Monday since it's MLK day and the banks are closed. Banks won't open till Tuesday morning so I can't hunt that day and can't borrow moms truck on Wednesday since she has a morning Dr. appointment so that days hunt is out too. I'm just screwed the whole way around! My last 10 days went to 4 in a heartbeat and today has just begun. I cant wait to see what life has in store to punch me in the face today.

Back on track! Got the chair redone, thankfully I had enough material. I got it delivered and made it to the bank, which was open, so now I have some money and am headed back to the duck woods in the morning. I may still have to walk in blind since my truck repair is going to be more involved than I thought. That's Ok, at least I'll be in the woods chasin ducks!

There used to be a cartoon character, can't think of his name, but a black cloud followed him every where he went. I don't think it was BJ, but I could be wrong? Better days duck man!

Not to worry Redneck. I'm gonna be fine. I do remember that cartoon character though, I don't remember him either? I was singing this song last night but not tonight! Like us Quack Addicts say "I'll whack em and stack em in the morning!"

Back when I used to duck hunt alot, I had more than one stretch of bad luck. One thing about hanging out in miserable weather in cold water, it is unforgiving of mistakes. I used to carry in my boat a Sealine bag with a towel, underwear, thick socks, long underwear, sweats, and a knit hat and gloves. If you go in and get wet, get to a spot where you can change out and get the dry clothes on. Could be a life saver and maybe you can keep huntin. My little "kit" took up little room too.
Funny thing about Neoprene, when you are submerged it is ok but when you are sitting in a blind or boat and the waders are wet they seem cold to me. They are great if you get a leak cause like you said the water warms right up in them.

My prayer for you: Dear Lord, let Mr BJ experience a crisp, cold morning with front clouds just peeking over the north western horizon. As the sun enters its pre-dawn phase and lights the sky up in a splash of crimson, magenta and amber slivers, let a hint of breeze be at his back so the landing patterns are set well. We ask that you let the decoys be set just so with no strings hung on the necks and no weights loosed, and all in place before first light. Lord, as the wing beats of the early morning Woodies and teal be heard in the distance comming off the marsh signaling the beginning of the flight time let BJ be warmed by tethered anticipation. If it be Your will, let BJ's hole in the trees be filled with a crop of floating acorns just awaiting hungry new-flight mallards, bald-pates, and gadwall itching for a lonely hen calling out in the morning. Let them come! Let them come! Let his gun shoot true and his lead be accurate. May the quarry fall before him and no bird go unretrieved. And in the joy of this most memorable hunt, we give thanks.........amen! Now, go and have a good time.

I carry the exact same thing in my duck pack; big bath towel and complete change of clothing with the face masks and mittens too. I also have all the other 'just in case' stuff too, fire making stuff, flashlights, food, water, you obviously know the drill! You are also right about the waders! Those things will freeze me to the boat seat, to the bank mud, to the side of a tree or even just freeze in position so it's hard to move my legs to walk! And the deal about the water leaking in them being "Warm" is just a relative term only used by duck hunters....just for those readers who don't hunt ducks. It's still really really cold!

What a prayer/blessing for a duck hunter! I have that baby saved and will figure out a way to print it. I want to have it laminated and affix it to the inside of the front of my boat. I went to the swamp down in Bayou Meto this morning with one of the young fella's and had to read this to him at 4 AM when he came by. We didn't kill any ducks but I thought about that blessing all morning long and had a smile on my face the whole time! Thanks Man! If you ever wanna go chasing ducks lemme know, you gotta built in hunt with me!
