Ended up have a great day today...finally! A cold front moved through in the night so this morning was not only cold but had a strong steady wind out of the NNW. Wind is not a friend when hunting in the timber so the morning was really dead. We hunted an area where the water was pushing it a bit much to stand in waders and since that wind had such a bite to it no one had a complaint hunting from the boat, including me with my leaking waders! I took the young guy Matt again but this time his Dad tagged along and come to find out he and I went to school together and sat with one another in Biology. He remembered me but I didn't have a clue about who he was? No matter, he's a real nice fella and retired Navy and we got along real well. Like his son he is a novice duck hunter but was happy to be in the woods and stuck it out without complaint the whole time the skies were empty. Thankfully the sun came out and turned the sky a brilliant blue and the wind laid down around 10:30 and then about 11:00 here came the Mallards! They worked absolutely perfect to my calls and we had some fantastic groups work into the decoy spread. I let the have at it as far as the shots and boy did they get excited and could NOT let the ducks get down in close like I like but what the hey, they were having a ball and I just let them shoot! They ended up with 4, two drakes and two hens and should have had many more but they were as thrilled as if we had all gotten a limit. I did tell em that that was their 'free' day and next time they weren't going to get to skybust and they were cool with that saying they don't care they just wanna hunt with me again. For me that was as good as if I had gotten a limit! Here's a few photos. I wanted some more and had intended on some video footage but things got really busy real quick and we didn't have much shooting time left before the 12:00 end of shooting hours.
