ok, so it looks like this weekend i will be unloading my keltec pf9. i liked it, but i have my taurus now which i just love. for my keltec, i will be getting a 9mm carbine. now.. heres the issue im having..
i also have a mosin too, with over 400 rounds. i do enjoy it greatly, i was thinking in a bug out situation, it might be left behind because it is a bit bulky. im considering selling it along with the ammo, and just having one caliber.
id like to hear what you guys would do in my situation.

IMHO,
It depends upon several things, but it would strike me that you have a great rifle to poke holes in hard objects far away with the Mosin. If you sold it, would the money really be worth it?
You said "if you had to bug out...." - but what if you decided to hunker down and stay? That 91/30 and 400 rounds would serve you well I suspect!
Again, it comes to to what the money from selling your Mosin would buy you.
Marc
Edit to add: If I still had guns, I would keep my Mosin M44 carbines and full length 91/30's because they are cheap insurance in case I did decide to hunker down. Try poking holes in something far away with 9mm.........
But, then I trust our Government to take care of me, so I don't need guns anymore.

yeah, mine is fairly accurate. if i had an m44, it wouldnt even be a thought. but, me living in the city, if i stayed around here, cant see very far before looking at a house from my window. the particular carbine im looking at getting is fairly accurate.

Hey, I don't blame you for wanting a 9mm carbine - makes a seeeet rig to go with a handgun. I'm a bigger fan than most on shared caliber carbines/handguns, but 9mm just doesn't hit hard enough to bank my life on it, when shooting further out. BUT - I have always said that for an anti-personnel weapon - shot placement trumps caliber every single time without fail. Shoot the gun that you are good with! Marc

Getting rid of firearms because of a fear of having to bug out is, IMO a mistake. In fact - getting rid of firearms for most any reason is a mistake. I can understand needing the $$$ of course, or needing something else.

Marc I think that 9mm depends on what your shooting, and shooting it out of. +p+ LE federal hydro shok 9mm moves out of a glock 17 at 1,325 fps. Out of my ar 9mm carbine, it's moving at 1,700 fps for a 115. That puts into mid range .357 energy.

If it were me, and the GCM's were not looking, I'd put it and the 400 rounds in a tube for planting. You never know when you may need those reserve flowers....

hi point carbine is the one im going for. i understand about not getting rid of a fire arm, but i could use the funds for more rounds for the 9mm

I'm with marc...JMHO...9mm has it's place, but even in a carbine, your talking a MAX of 100 yards. And that will only be good if you make good hits. You won't punch through any block walls ot anything else for that matter with a 9 mm, carbine or not.
I know living in the city seems not much for distance shooting, but you need a weapon that can reach out and touch someone at 200-400 yards. That helps keep the wolves at bay. You wait till they are at 100 yards or less, then you have no advantage. I'd only get rid of the mosin for a different long distance weapon.
I'm not comfortable with the one caliber thingy, but to each his own. One has to do what one is confident with.
Good luck with your quest!
Jimmy

I had a 995 and really liked it but du3 to streamlining my collection before that gcm invasion I sold it to a fellow member. As to ammo I shot +p with no problems and at 84yds would eat the center out of an 8 inch plate. Wife used it for deer hunting while it was still legal to do so.

I'm not sure of their reliability but, the concept is interesting for a bug out carbine. Lightweight 4 lbs. empty, folds to 16X7 inches and will take Glock 33 round mags.
