I have carried a leatherman pst for years and it has served me well. I am looking at the super tool 300 or the new surge, I am leaning to the surge. I defiantly want big pliers with replaceable wire cutters. The new surge should be available this September. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCbSWxdABdsHelp me make this incredibly hard choice.

I have the super tool. Nothing that I have tried to use it for has beaten it. My only comparison however, is a cheap gerber to take it for what its worth. I would buy another in a heart beat.

I have a older Surge and it served me well, now its in my BOB, I purchased a Super 300 a couple years ago and really like it, Better leverage with pliers, I can open accessories with gloves on, at the time I bought it it was on special for around $60.00 during a holiday.Anyway thats what I recommend.

All I got is a Wave. Guess it'll have to do.

@ uscgme2 the wave is the most popular tool for a reason....it awesome! I am interested in the bigger tools because I do lots of wrenching and the t-shank blade exchanger will be used almost daily. If leatherman where to put the rebar pliers and t-shank saw blade exchanger in the wave I would likely get the wave.

I believe that survival happens every day. I live in an environment that demands tools, I always have my pst and a flashlight. Looking forward to the release of the newly designed surge. My concern is the weight....you guys/gals think I will get used to all that weight hanging from my belt?

i have a 15 year old gerber scout and it has never let me down, the newer gerbers are rubbish in comparison, nowadays i would deffo go for the leatherman product over the gerber but back then it was gerber all the way

I was just expressing "tool envy" I carry my Gerber one fishing cause I can open it one handed to unhook fish and it is an older USA made one. Today's Gerbers are mostly crap. Any new ones I get will be Leathers.

It looks like the surge won't have a bit driver . I really want a bit driver. St300 has a bit driver that works with the Phillips driver maybe leatherman did something similar with the surge. If not then the st 300 for the win.

I have not bought a new leatherman yet, what I have been doing is buying things from pawn shops to resell. I ended up buying a old style wave (keeping) and a swisstool spirit s, put the swisstool up for sale while I was using it. Well I sold it to a friend just as I was thinking I should sell the wave! I miss the swt. I believe it to be a much better tool than the wave and am now looking for another, problem is I sold the one I had for $45... But once I put something up for sale I am committed ! At least I went to a friend.

I'll take my chances with a gerber or swiss rather than donate to the anti gun campaign. Of course, if you're buying used, it take's money out of Tim's pocket. Heck, if I had the time and was more vindictive, I'd buy used ones, break them and send them in for new ones just to cost the sob money.

Are you saying the owner of leatherman is anti-gun? If so that's info every outdoorsman should know and hurt him financially. That sucks.
