Missj, I am really proud of you. I bember your tale of going through the outdoor class last year, and thought that's quite a gal. Now your starting out with the greatest rifle ever invented, ( I know I'll get some static over that lol). It can be a lot of fun punching paper with those old guns. I got a '03 springfield back in the day from DCM for $29, then a carbine for $20, which included shipping. My brother and I went to camp perry in '07 and procured a garand and another carbine. Any way I got three garands and three more carbines. Gave one carbine to my son and one to my youngest gs. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. I would suggest you order the manuals from CPM for the garand, as they will be very useful.
Good luck
Bill

I have a question.
Which "GRADE" did you get?
Rack Grade?
Field Grade?
Service Grade?
Correct Grade?

sorry I've been absent. working. camping. working. camping.
So, I got the service grade.
I ordered 600 rounds of surplus ammo. I'll probably order some more surplus ammo and manuals from the CMP here soon.
Daisy sounds like a great name! I was sorta calling her "Gertie" but it didn't really seem right..

My shoulder was bruised for about 5 days after sighting Daisy in, but she shoots straight and makes a nice big boom. Eventually I was at the range by myself and after changing my targets I forgot to put my ear protection back on and I cracked off 1 round.....WHOA! that's a mistake you only make once.
I wonder, during battles did they use any kind of ear protection? That is a lotta OUCH in the eardrums.

I wonder, during battles did they use any kind of ear protection? That is a lotta OUCH in the eardrums. Not to my knowledge. And the Garand wasn't the loudest weapon on the field either. A lot of WW2 vets suffered hearing loss as a result (one of my honorary grandpas included, who was a C-47 pilot).

Ear plugs? We don't need no stinking ear plugs! I can't begin to tell you the number of times when the slightest sound was all of the warning I received in a crisis situation. At the same time I can't tell you how many times I was unable to hear anything after a fire fight. The higher end ear muffs can be tuned to a specific decibel, allowing you to here voice commands, etc. but shutting off the sound during firing. Most of my hearing loss today is from shooting on the USMC pistol team where I sometimes shot 10,000 rounds in a week. Even with ear plugs/muffs that damaged my hearing.
