It's 55 degrees and pitch black out tonight. Must be a billion stars overhead and I can see them all. Coyotes are yipping in the woods causing the two Great Pyrnees across the road to bark in response. I guess that's to keep the goats safe. Other than all of that, except once in awhile the owls spread a little gossip, it's quieter than a cemetery out here.
I had peace and quiet to some degree at the lake but nothing like here. You can hear 'quiet' sometimes. It's in your head, when you concentrate you can almost hear no noise. Standing in the dark your senses focus. You can smell the must of rotting leaves and dead trees, the 'ripeness' of the soil. You think it's silent until you hear the insects and because of the quiet it's a cacophony of sound. Like a bad orchestra tuning before a performance. When it's this dark your night vision improves. You can see the darkness better you just can't see anything. My touch greatly improves. I can feel the coolness of the stainless steel, the roughness on the top of the hammer, just a touch of oil and the comfort of the grips. It's a comfort to hold. I've always had a habit (a conscience one, I know I'm doing it and doing it safely) of pulling back the hammer and easing it off. I think it became a nervous habit when I would enter a dark bldg at night. Maybe I was just trying to let 'them' know I was ready.
It's only eleven acres. But they're my eleven acres. It's my cold well water and it brings me comfort being here. Maybe by spring I'll have the house. Living in a fifth wheel now though isn't bad. Laundry and shower in the storage bldg. Nice big well house to work out of. Life at Camp David seems pretty sweet right now. I've gained a little peace with some things this week and I like the outlook. I made a good choice and all is well.
(Now if I could just get that 'yote in range.... :-) )

Man, that was a nice ride - thanks for taking us along. Makes me want to move out of the city, sooner than I am able.

I am so jealous, guy. I had seven acres of an old farm with a bank barn on it. My DW and I were going to build a ranch house to get away from steps, but she got sick too quite. I still dream of what I wanted to do with it. Hope you are able to get the house in the spring.

Wow TW, your description of your new location was poetry in motion and I was wanting for more to read. Well CL I wish you had been here today to help put up insulation. (Course I would have had to get you a ladder. I just tucked and stapled it in. Used the ladder to hold my stuff) Lol. I hate that stuff but a necessary evil if I don't want my pipes to freeze. Also got half of the well house floor painted. Using a garage floor paint. It'll work. Oh. It's red!!! Have to insulate that soon. Got water heater insulation for my 66 gallon water bladder. I'll have a small heater in there when it gets really cold. Nothing worse than a frozen pipe. Well unless it's a burst pipe Low 80s and high 50s. Still sweating but sleeping oh so good. Owls are busy again tonight. Sat out and said goodbye to Mr Chivas and Mr H. Upmann. Mr Ruger was on guard duty. Good company while all by myself

I can about imagine the conversation you and Missasip had. Remember one thing, Karma is a B*tch. Back to the drawing board. I would've gladly helped you tackle the insulation, looking to do some myself in the months ahead. Still recuperating from the shed I tore down in the past two days. Next time give me a heads up and a few days to hitch a ride.

That conversation about you had you sitting on a throne. A short one but it was the best dang throne you've ever thought of. And you're welcome here anytime you can get here. :-)

The paint didn't really dry right. It would track all over the place. The worse part, the darkroom was through the train room. Bill

A few months ago I posted that I had put up a rather large bird feeder (about 1.5 gallons) but in three months it was still full. No birds. The only birds I had were crows and turkey vultures. However, when I came back from Florida I noticed half of the feeder was empty. The next day I was watching and I had cardinals, bluejays, woodpeckers and various and assorted other birds. I've since put up a second bird feeder identical to the other and the birds are just flocking in. I had five big doves along with the others this morning. It's tough living in paradise but I hope to finally adjust in 2015. They just now found ya....bet bushy tails workin' on the seeds too... Jimmy
