Surprisingly I haven't seen many squirrels around them. Which is good.

I have found that using a good quality birdseed mix brings them in fast. It ain't cheap, but I use a "Californian" mix that brings in the Cardinals, Blue Jays, Buntings, Chickadees, Warblers and both Pillated and Redhead peckers. I enjoy watching the cute little Tit's too. Tree rats are always a problem at the feeders around here, because they attract the bigger kitties like this one two weeks ago: Marc

Dang brother. That's a big kitty This guy was quite tall and lanky, right at 20 lbs. - not near as big/heavy as they get up your way. My dog found him in my yard just before dawn, still shallow breathing but glassy eyed and non responsive. A couple of hours later he was dead. Looked like snake bites to me. Timber rattlers are on the rise this year, but I would never kill four of them of course, because they are protected........ I moved this unfortunate fellow about 200 yards straight out from by back door and the Turkey Vultures did their job very, very efficiently........... The circle of life.

A few months ago I posted that I had put up a rather large bird feeder (about 1.5 gallons) but in three months it was still full. No birds. The only birds I had were crows and turkey vultures. However, when I came back from Florida I noticed half of the feeder was empty. The next day I was watching and I had cardinals, bluejays, woodpeckers and various and assorted other birds. I've since put up a second bird feeder identical to the other and the birds are just flocking in. I had five big doves along with the others this morning. It's tough living in paradise but I hope to finally adjust in 2015. So glad the fine feathered friends found the feeder of goodies you set out for them. I just enjoy watching all the birds in my yard feeding away just like you.

Don't know why but our bob's range from poor little, kittys, to some huge rascals, almost like northern lynx. They are getting alot less shy as well, just walk by the deer stand an give ya the 'eye'. Cajun my birds are about to bankrupt me..bout a zillion cardinal pairs eating commercial seed, two kinds of sunflower, n chicken scratch for the rest. I got some doves nearly as fat as chickens. LoL

On my TX deer leases it was mandatory that any and all bobcats would be shot on sight.
They would ruin a place where turkey and quail were included in the deer lease.
They were worse then yotes because they would climb a tree and take turkey right off the roost.
In the mid 80's you could get $300. for a bobcat pelt.

Can only hunt them here during limited fur bearer season. 'Possum cops', will rip you just for picking up a road kill. They were rare in the 60's when put under protection but have really made a come back.

Its probably the same there now. There were times you couldn't shoot any to times you shot all you could find. It depends on the location and the numbers of the animals there

It's a cool 25* on a clear night. There is something about a cold clear night that makes me feel like I could reach out and grab a handful of stars. I'm sure God wouldn't mind cause there are sooooo many out tonight, He probably wouldn't miss them (although I can hear my Grandmother telling me to 'put those back, they aren't yours'). It's too cold to sit out there without a big roaring fire. It would be nice though, sit out there with my friends from the bunker around a big fire, smoke a good cigar and sip some 'shine from twicebitten, or from my 'Christmas spirits' I received from Cajun Lady. Like at the 'rendevous' we had at CD1 a couple of years ago there would be some big stories told and you just know the first liar doesn't stand a chance in that situation. Lol I think that's the great part of this forum, the people I've met (10 altogether plus a couple by phone). All really good people and they would all be welcome at my fire. I know there have been some here who have had the chance to meet other members from here and I'd bet they feel the same. It's a great forum. I think I'll have to work on that fire ring, build a fire, grab some liquid refreshment with a good cigar, bundle up and watch Camp David at night. Y'all enjoy your evenin'. (

I spent a little time last night working on the stops for the return from next summer's excursion, wondering how many bunker folks we're going to get to meet, even if it's just for coffee at a local diner or some similar establishment. I've met 3 and spoken to 3 more on the phone.

Your right cajun, it is about time to try and field another get together some place for as many as could make it. Well when TW says the word, let's do it. We need to find out who positively wants to join in to give everyone enough time to plan this.

I just love this time of the year. I've been working into the night in the back yard next to the fire pit with a head lamp on making knives and sheaths. I just love the "harsh" winters of Florida.
