Morning all, just finished eating a bowl of oatmeal. Doc says it does a body good and I need to bring my blood sugar level down.
Haven't eaten oatmeal since I was very young, always preferred grits. So I'm looking for variances of how you like to eat your oatmeal.
I add a little molasses and top it off with ground pecans for protein. Sometimes I add a small dab of strawberry or grape preserves and add ground walnuts.
What about you?

Peanut butter, peanut butter and honey, peanut butter and dark chocolate. Cinnamon and honey. I may or may not have browned venison pan sausage, poured off the drippings then added onion and bell pepper and jalapeƱos or cayennes, then dry oatmeal and a little stock, then slid a slice of cheese on it when done. Fried egg over same might notbe bad....just saying. I might have wilted a large leaf of fresh chard over same in the name of "nutrition" .

Well I like the peanut butter and dark chocolate suggestions, it's all about grams of sugar so I'll have to figure it out. I already do the cinnamon, honey and molasses alternately, just hadn't mentioned it. The venison sausage and fixings sound good but I couldn't even tell ya the last time I had any. Thanks for dropping by with the suggestions.

I don't have a sweet tooth at all, so I eat it straight up when cooked in non-fat milk. For a treat, I'll add a few berries now and then.
A friend of mine eats oatmeal like he does grits: Butter and salt. The possibilities are endless.

Never thought about adding peanut butter or chocolate. I might have to try that!
I usually a little butter, raisins, walnuts, lots of cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Occasionally a little bit of milk.
I forgot that last year I had been adding a tablespoon of chia seeds to boost the nutrition intake.
CL if you like grits have you tried steel cut oats? They are ground to a larger size than grits but have a nice chewy texture. They do take a bit longer to cook. When I make them I just add butter and salt.

We call it "island" breakfast from when the girls were little. Blob of oatmeal (no instant) pour milk around it like a moat to make the island, then brown sugar and butter in the center. Stir and enjoy!

Wow, lots of great ideas, I like that.
CWI, instead of apples sometimes I add a little applesauce with cinnamon.
Cowgirl I really love grits. Alas, like rice I've cut way back on eating them along with potatoes. Just very minute servings, barely enough to get a taste of them. Been grilling and baking most of my meats and eating more chicken. Every so often I'll add chunks of turkey to my chef salad as I'm not a turkey eater very much.
When I boil shrimp I add broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, potatoes and little smokie sausage. Crawfish are coming out on the scene so it's time to buy them more instead of shrimp and watch what I eat with them. No crackers, dips and a little potato besides all the veggies I throw in the pot.

I use vanilla Almond milk to cook it in (a lactose intollerance.) Then the usual Butter, Sucanat, Pecans, Rasins, Dried Cranberries, peaches, apples, blueberries, strawberries . . . whatever tickles the taste buds and is availabale. (Not all the above at once ). I've come to like the flavor the vanilla in the Almond milk gives. The peanut butter and honey is a new one to me!!

Steel cut oats are still oats just not rolled. So you get a sort of healthier grit.

I've never added nuts, but SG's version is exactly what my mom always did.
When I make chocolate chip cookies, I add oatmeal, molasses, lots of cinnamon, freshly ground nutmeg, and only brown sugar (the chips bag usually calls for half white and half brown). Now that Ceorlmann's renewed our supply of allspice, there's something else to try in oatmeal.

Thanks all, I've copied many of y'all ideas to try for more variety. CG, I'll also buy steel oats to try those, heck I'll even try garret's suggestion as I'm curious on the flavor outcome.

I like apples and cinnamon
I like to add granola or grape nuts
I like plain oatmeal with blue berry or strawberry yogurt.
I like to add brown sugar instead of sugar
Flavored instant oatmeal is in all of my go bags because all it takes is some boiled water to have a hot meal
