Im wanting to upgrage my AR15 (S/W M&P 15) and 45 auto mags and zero in on what are the most reliable for the money and where to get them. For my AR I have tried a Tapco (not good results) regular cheapy GI type (again not totally reliable) , and I just got a Surefire 60 round quad mag for Fathers Day that actually worked really well to my suprise. (It is more of a novelty though and they are pricey). All I have at the moment for my 45 are blue metal 7 rd mags (cheaper ones that came with it) that work but I dont completely trust them.
So, what is the opinion from all you shooters out there? What are the best mags for the money for these or whatever kind of gun you want to talk about?

dang I linked the wrong page. But Wilson Combat or Ed Brown or Knights Custom in Dallas. Buy magazines as if your life depended on them, because it does.
Why would you want a $20 mag in a $1000. weapon?
That would be like a 3 speed automatic transmission in a 409 Camaro.

I bought a couple of hybrid mags from Joe mags. Great price, and I have been well pleased. Now if you want something with a name on it, don't look there. www.joes1911magmania.net/shopPaul

For the AR, PMAGs are the best for the price. I don't have an exact figure, but I'd bet more than 75% of the soldiers overseas are using PMAGs. For the 1911, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Chip McCormick, Colt, Kimber, Springfield Armory should all run very, very fine.

I use surplus 30 round M16 mags in my AR15. I've never had a problem with them.

I use USGI mags with green followers in the AR and chip mccormick stainless 8 rounds in my 45. The CM is the only mag i have other than the 1942 inscribed mag that never fails no matter what ammo used. CWI may remember looking up the inscription in his grandfathers journel for me. It says "carried at he mile oct 1942"

Regarding mags, I've gotten in a large order of Pmags. I tested one for off gasing recently, with good results, but so far only have 800 rounds through the test mag. (No FTF so far) One of our members is at the range today to finish the testing.
The standard aluminum mags didn't start jacking up until 1500 at which time the feed lips showed signs of wear and or cracking at the corners. That is our benchmark. We intend to fire 3000 rounds from the test mag. If it can do that with No FTF or other mag related jam, We intend to get more of them.
Will let you know.

I read somewhere that PMags wont work on the MP15? I cant see why not, it is supposed to be a mil-spec weapon is it not? Thanks for the links everyone, Ill check out those Wilson's, they are supposed to be bomb proof. I want the eight round ones...
Are there real advantages to the M-pul Ranger plates? Also, how long can I leave mags loaded without worrying about the springs failing?

Got my answer on the Pmag/MP15 issue...apparently, the first gen MP15 has a lip on the magwell that is a hair too thick. Simple fix, either shave a bit off the p-mag or the lip of the mag well. It is only a fraction of an inch apparently.

Honestly, Im not sure if my MP15 is first gen or not. Either way, I can solve it. Let us know how those mag tests come out. I appreciate all you have to share CWI.
