A while back in the news there was a nut job barricaded against the police, I forget why, but when they got him the news reported that "He had an excessive amount of guns and ammo inside". It turned out he had a total of 13 guns, and some ammo. Not what I would even begin to call excessive. Which made me think, how much is too much? Where is the line crossed between a normal gun collection and an armory, or a weapons depot? Who makes that distinction of what to call our daily user guns. I would venture a guess that a good lot of us are in the excessive department according to the media.

The media is going to spin it how their masters tell them to. It doesn't matter if it's a nerf gun, by the time the media gets done with it, you owned an arsenal.

Yeah I know they report it with spin..... Old police blotter report in the paper. Suspect caught with drugs, booze, cash, several guns.
Guy at work stopped at the saloon on Fri nite, cashed his pay check, bought a 6 pack, and a little weed.......stopped in front of his open garage, they found his 12 ga duck gun 30-30 and .22.......A really bad man.
Happened at the shop I used to work at....guy beat all charges after spending Fri.nite in jail....got his money/guns back...... but the wasn't a police blotter article saying...."We, the po-lice screwed up in so many ways....."
I just read about an 85 year old guy that was shot in a "stand-off".....that the one y'all are talking about.....?

I won't say how many I own....since I really can't keep track since I keep losing so many on canoeing trips...
But I would guess that your typical American is uncomfortable with ANY guns....but they won't consider it a "collection" until you've got at least 4 and they will consider it less of a collection and more of a "stockpile" somewhere around 10+. They don't really care how many adults live in the house, or how many legitimate sporting activities are devoted to each different gun. Somewhere in the double digits they will think you're a freak.
Fine. Don't bring 'em all out at once and don't store them all in the same place. Resist the urge to show them off (I know it's hard) and you should be OK.....

A feeling of bewilderment came over me when I stopped and thought about this. How can we even be talking about this? I can remember one of the houses I grew up in was a suburban ranch, modern and very stylish in a nice neighborhood. This house had a BUILT IN gun case! It was more of a display more than anything with sliding glass doors. It held at least 20 long guns and I have not a clue how many sidearms. I do remember there was never and empty slot unless we were gone hunting or at the range. All the ammo and accessories were in the lower cabinet. The glass doors had a simple slide lock on them and at such time they were closed the key was always hanging in the lock! It was a common thing back then, every house around had built in gun cabinets.
Where and when did this train run off of the rails?

There was no point to the question. It was just a old news event, I think from up in Washington state possibly, a few months back. It just came to mind and made me wonder what happened to the days where having a major gun collection was a proud point in a guys life. I remember growing up when you went to visit some one the guns were displayed openly in the main room of the house, as a focal point. And when you made a new friend one of the first questions was what kind of guns ya got, and do you have any to sell or trade? Oh well just another thing gone from my younger days. On a different note = All you guys and girls with canoes, need to get rid of them ASAP they are just too dangerous! Stay out of the water, they seem to be highly unstable and turn over at the sight of water.

Don't forget the dreaded flying monkeys, they are especially bad in the summer months. It takes super heavy screen to keep them out.
