If you think its bad now, give it a few more days. I would not turn my back on some one who got caught short, but when you willingly put yourself and others in life danger why do you expect, NO DEMAND, that first responders come and get your A$$$. and put their lives in danger. Its just fricken unthinkable, I am a Bug in person. but dam there is a time to get the "F" out.....
You see it all the time and its been discussed here many a time. Huracains, Winter storms, ETC. it makes no diff people just think they are not the ones this time. Go to any super market 8-12 hours before a predicted storm its a circus go 2-6 hours before and its Dodge city of the old west..and people bitching that the shelfs are bare and no one to help them.... I like OT went and made sure my niegbors were ready and the elderly had their supplies and cell phones charged. Got laughed at a lot but most knew We where right....

The B.S.A. motto is - "Be Prepared!"...and for good reason.
Be prepared, or suffer the consequences. These people are now suffering the consequences of their lack of preparation. I don't feel sorry for them. I feel sorry for thier children. They now have to suffer the same consequences because their parents failed them.

These same people complain that the government controls to much of there lives. But when a disaster hits who do they expect help from. You can't have it both ways, you either give your soul to the man. Or get off your a## when you are warned and prepare for what may come.

I'm so tired of seeing that one lady that is yelling, "we're gonna die", "it's been 3 days", etc. THREE DAYS and she already thinks she gonna die! She's yelling they have no food, no heat, no water, no clothes and demanding the senator/congressman to get the power trucks to HER block TODAY, bring food and clothes to HER block, TODAY. My lord woman, are you the only block in NY? Yes, it's gonna get MUCH worse before it gets any better and this is def a perfect situation for us to watch how it unfolds.
And now they want to have the marathon and have all these huge generators sitting there that could be used for people in the city. I feel sorry for the security guard standing there or the one that has the night shift. I have a bad feeling the wrong ppl are gonna pay those generators a visit along with the equipment to move them.

Well let's see, they have plenty of wood and i'm sure someone could find a big pot. Now go put some water in the pot put it on the fire. Bring it to a boil now you have water. That seemed pretty easy

That seemed pretty easy Not so easy with sea water, but add something for the steam to condense in/on and then you would have the beginnings of potable water. It is a viable solution when brought to fruition.

It is a viable solution when brought to fruition. Water heaters.toilet storage tanks and house gutters will hold fresh water. Good point about salt water needing to be processed differently, but can be done. Water is what people need now, For healthy people food can wait. Why is it the news always shows the unprepared. Can they not also show the people that were prepared. it may rub off on the stupid unprepared people.

They can't show that some people haven't swallowed the party line and displayed some common sense. We're all supposed to crave the government's teat. Preparation goes against their narrative.

This may not be a popular opinion, but I'll state it anyway.
Care should be taken in consideration of those people left stuck there. I agree that they should have gotten out ahead of it, and if possible they should get out now. Whatever the case, it is ill advised to allow your conscience/heart to be hardened to it.
I am certain people here would do what they had to do for their family and themselves to survive. I am equally certain that most if not all are taking notes how this is going down, and balancing it against their preparations to learn from it. However, don't let the actions of those who put themselves in harms way jade your heart and soul. The day you feel nothing regarding the misfortune and hardships of others, however well deserved, is the day you lose another chunk of your humanity. It is my opinion that death is preferable to losing ones soul to darkness and indifference.
I can only speak for myself, others will likely see it different.
My personal opinion for what it's worth.

In the newspaper business (what's left of it) the big story has always been 'if it bleeds it leads'. So they don't want to focus on the people who actually took responsibility for their own lives. They'd rather focus on WHY we need to have a big government. I find it funny that in a time of crisis they always say they're going to do away with bureaucracy and red tape.... welllll why don't they figure out that's the problem from the beginning, why we can't get anything done because they throw up red tape during normal times.. They had to do away with the 'Jones Law' to allow NON UNION ships to be able to dock in NJ. Talk about a bunch of stupidity in government. Five days later they decide to waive the 'Jones Law'. Why is it even there in the first place? To appease union bosses... Stupid unprepared people will always be stupid unprepared people.. because they're always the ones that want someone else to fix their stupid... and yep, the old saying is... You Can't Fix Stupid!!!!!

CWI, you make a good point about our fellow man. Having said that, listening to and reading about them defecating in the hallway, or standing out on the street looking for someone to yell at, or complaining all they've eaten in the last 48 hours is one slice of pizza I have a hard time understanding how this happens. Surely in one building of that many people one person would be able to figure out how to devise a community 'outhouse' somewhere in the building besides the hallway. Surely, that person had more in his home than one slice of pizza.... I realize some people literally live hand to mouth.. but since the storm from last year one could have put a few items away, candles, cans of fruit/soup/vegetables, something to get them through a few days. However, I agree, that somewhere in there, some sorrow has to cross your mind that these people are really that stupid.

Thywar,
Understand what it is your seeing. Decades of depending on others to provide for even the most basic needs. Life long indoctrination regarding the concept of big government. Institutional dependency on that big government. The vast majority of them have never been outside the city. Self reliance is alien to them, with everything that ever goes wrong for them being blamed on someone or something else.
These people are not stupid for the most part, they are ignorant. They do not know any other way as their 'reality' has been spoon feed to them by a government and media that prefers they never learn self reliance.
Think about it.

CWI...Self Reliance is not really the issue. Yes, it's part of it. I'm aware that most people are not self reliant. Most people are "plugged in" to this system. I actually understand people not preparing for the various reasons. I don't agree, but I understand the "sheeple" mentality.
The major issue is that these people did not think for themselves with the information they were spoon fed. If they are so reliant on big goberment why did they ignore big goberment telling them to evacuate? Now they want big goberment to bail them out as priority #1? I ain't buying it.
Call me callous but I find the quote, "Failure to prepare or act on your part does not constitute an emergency upon mine" a very fitting statement.

CWI, Point taken.
''These people are not stupid for the most part, they are ignorant.'' CWI
Difference of: A person can be ignorant (not knowing some fact or idea) without being stupid (incapable of learning because of a basic mental deficiency).
