And why I choose not to live in the city... www.nbcnewyork.com/video/#!/on-air/as-seen-on/Sandy-Starved-New-Yorkers-Dumpster-Dive/176839571 My friend at work has family there. Nothing is open, most don't own cars and the subway is shut down. The streets are packed with traffic since the subways are down. Only one local restaurant is open and they are charging $35 for a hamburger. People are literally fighting to get in. Fights are also breaking out over the free seats on the busses.

Well, the original video I posted showed New Yokers, lots of 'em, picking through a store dumpster looking for food that was discarded.

I am hearing more of the same. It would appear the media is being highly selective in what they are reporting.

I was really having fun reading the comments under the dumpster video.
I feel sorry for the children that had to stay because their parents where frickin DA's. That old song and dance of not knowing or how to do it just won't work any more. 35 bucks for a burger??? That A$$ Hat needs to be drawn and quartered. If it can be proven then get them for price gauging. If they did not get out when told then its tough cheese jessie. It is funny that main stream is not reporting this,,, JUST THE LONG GAS LINES,,,,,,

After watching the news tonight, I was surprised myself at how much people were already complaining to the extent they were after just a few days. They were told numerous times to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. They got the worst and were still totally unprepared...no water, no food, no nothing! I just don't understand.

I've been reading the examples of things. I see they have state troopers posted at what gas stations are open. People are getting into fights, pulling guns etc. This, I think, is just a brief picture of what SHTF will look like world wide one day. There are still 500,000 people without electricity.. and they haven't really started cleaning anything up yet. Just draining water, getting electric back on. NY wants the Feds to pick up the total $6 billion tab (which I think will be low) and if they do it for NY, they'll have to do it for all the states I would think. I read somewhere that this would be the Feds new QESandy. This would be a way to 'stimulate' the economy. 158,000 new jobs.. that's just pathetic. Nothing about Benghazi except on Fox News.. nobody gives a damn about the four Americans that died. Ok.. I'm finished before I really get started.. Good point Will.. I never want to live in a big city ever again.

"...the power is going to be off for six weeks...six weeks! We need someone to come down here and tell us what's going on!"
This is sad and pathetic. This is why we prep!!! I wanted to grab the young mother of two 20-month olds and say, "Lady! Grab your kids and get the heck out of Dodge! Get to high ground! Get to an out-of-the-city church or women's shelter! BUT, what ever you do, GET OUT OF TOWN, NOW! It's only going to continue to get worse!"

. This, I think, is just a brief picture of what SHTF will look like world wide one day. I agree 100%. Take note of what's going on in these areas today. Don't fail and forget what went on with Katrina and the reaction of the masses there...add these two together, spread it over the entire USA and you've got hell on earth. A total relapse of 100 years...a repeat of times gone by! I get angry when I listen to sound bites on the radio or see video footage and listen to the ones being interviewed...The sheeple have been lead to the slaughter and it only took one to lead them there!!!

We saw the same lack of preparedness here, and our area was relatively unscathed compared to parts of NYC and NJ. Lots of folks complained about our local electric company's efforts before the storm had even arrived. Looking at how folks drove... ignoring those traffic lights that functioned, refusing to take turns at intersections without working lights, aggressively tailgating to avoid waiting at a 1-vehicle-at-a-time underpass... tempers were short here too. The gas lines at Costco were ridiculous (yes, I well remember the lines in 1973), and yet ALL our local stations had gas. Too many folks still adamantly refuse to take even the most basic steps to prepare.
A few weeks ago, I read a book to my students in 2nd - 4th grade -- "Hurricane" -- little guessing just how pertinent it would soon be. The book gently discussed one family's preparations in simple terms. A basic timeline of a week was given between the storm's arrival and the initial weather report. Extra food shopping was done, water was stored, windows were covered, pets were secured, porch and lawn items were garaged. Once the wind gusts began, flashlights were issued to each person. When the power went out, board games were brought out. Everyone went to bed feeling fairly safe (the setting was not near any bodies of water). Next morning, a favorite tree was discovered completely uprooted.
The book's obvious goal (teaching preparation without instilling fear) was accomplished rather well based on the questions the kids asked afterwards.

A lot of people now days live in a fairy tale world. Nothing like reality to wake people up. I knew this was going to be serious and by no means a joking matter. No matter what happens you will always have people that just don't get it. Question...just asking, are these people worth saving?

My offhand quickie answer is no. If they lack the foresight to prepare for something like this, I can't imagine them having the foresight to prepare for other SHTF moments. They'd belong to the thinned out part of the herd. The ones fighting at the gas pumps wouldn't be a great choice either; too volatile. I'm not sure which is worse: lack of preparation or emotional volatility.

I know it sounds cruel and would never turn my back on a person in need. But if they made the decision to stay despite the warning. Then it is what it is, no more no less.

IMO...people are worth saving, even the ones who do not prep...but we can't save the world. GOD helps those who help themselves.
PERFECT example...Noah built an ark and while doing so, he warned people. He was laughed at and ridiculed. Yet he went ahead with his plans, built his ark and got on with his life. He did as he was told by GOD and collected the animals and everything needed to survive the coming flood. As he loaded all the animals and such, people laughed harder and made more fun of him. He did not waiver. As the world flooded, people banged on the sides of the ark begging to be let in. Had he opened the doors, he, his family, the animals and everything on board would have been lost. He tried to warn them. He tried to help them and they would not listen. They died, and he lived.
There is a STRONG message there. We are to prepare for the worst and continue on with our daily lives. Offer advice and help to those we can while we can...but when SHTF, there are gonna be a lot of people out there in a world of hurt.

You got that right Dink. I live in Ohio miles away from the coast but still made sure that mom & dad plus myself were ready for whatever happened.
