Update: Sue (the friend in Orlando) decided an hour ago to evacuate to Tampa. AN HOUR AGO. Now Matthew is being called a 4/5 on one FL news site, winds predicted to gust to 140 MPH, and possibly upgraded to a full cat 5 by midnight. This is a dangerous one, people. It's almost certainly too late to evac for those in S. FL, but never too late to pray. Now I need to see if I can persuade Dorna to GTH out of Charleston and head inland.

I was just checking on some of my cousins in Charleston. Apparently, they are staying. She reposted a post on fb "evacu-shaming". This is why people don't take storms seriously. Here is the post: www.carolinalifeinbloom.com/evacu-shaming/ SMH!

We'll see who's right after the weekend's over. I haven't heard a word from or about Dorna today, so I hope that means they're either evacuating or hunkering down and too busy for FB.

They just updated the forecast. Now predicting a 12 - 15 foot storm surge with winds of 140 mph. We're good on supplies, water, food and generators - I appreciate the offer. They've increased the mandatory evacuation areas so that there is now an mandatory evac of about 12 million people. The roads are already clogged. People that are leaving now will be in traffic for a long, long time....not sure how far they will get.
I've got a few more things to tie down. Neighbors that we're looking after are good too.

I just heard from Sue again. She posted on FB that she is outside of FT MYERS. That's 171 miles southwest of Orlando. Tampa is 85 miles WSW of Orlando. WTH is she doing outside of Ft Myers? And btw, much closer to the hurricane as well...

I was in Naples, Florida for the last week and rolled out of there at 10 am yesterday morning in order to be ahead of the storm evacuation. I arrived back in Texas at my house about 7am. I had planned to stay another 2 days days but it seemed wiser to scoot...The traffic on I-75 through I-10 along the west coast was minimal all the way out.. I started seeing streams of electrical repair bucket trucks along about 200 miles from the Florida/Alabama line being staged where is the question.... I did not see much happening in the way of storm preparation yesterday morning before I left. Though I am willing to bet the east coat of Florida will be whole different story...I hope everyone out there is ready and stays safe....

There will be a record number of outages. One needs gas (generators), food and water for a minimum of 2 weeks. At this point. We had the power back on with 12,000 contractors in 12 days. We're talking about 190,000 customers. This is going to be epic. It will get medieval. Personal protection should be in place. This one is gonna make Katrina look like a walk in the park if it holds course and power. They have our folks set up to stay 3-5 weeks. Hope they are wrong. Jimmy

I just heard that the governor of SC ordered the evacuation of Charleston. At this late a date, it's going to be parking lots, not escape routes. I shudder to think what this is going to do to beautiful, historic Charleston, toll on human lives aside. Please continue to pray for my friend Dorna, who lives in Charleston suburb Summerville, and my other friend Sue, who posted that having left Orlando for Tampa was just outside FT MYERS (which is 170+ miles southwest of Orlando!) so I hope she meant to say Ft Meade and had a brain fart.

Governor Haley started evacuations Wednesday afternoon (3pm). At this point, only 195,000 have evacuated. She's p.o.'d and let the state know that is not enough. School buses were sent to evacuate those who had no way, or no where to go. They will be taken to shelters in other parts of the state. The main interstate leading into Charleston (I-26, east and west) is one way, as of yesterday afternoon. People aren't taking this seriously and are staying put, or waiting until the last minute to leave.
